"Breaking the hiatus and taking the stage" Singer Kim Gun-mo confirmed his comeback after six years, and his recent whereabouts have been spotted day after day.
Following an encounter anecdote recently revealed by jazz pianist Yang Tae-gyeong, news of a nationwide tour was also reported, sustaining fans' intense interest.
On the 18th, Yang Tae-gyeong shared on his social media, "I accidentally ran into hyung Kim Gun-mo in the rehearsal room, and he greeted me warmly, saying "I'm watching your YouTube well," and offered a handshake," updating on his recent status. He continued, "He is a wonderful senior who covered for my mistake with song about 10 years ago on 'Open Concert.' He went through a brief difficult time, but I'm so happy that he is breaking the hiatus and taking the stage. Hyung is always gentle and looks best when he smiles," he offered his support.
In addition, earlier the concert producer Istar Media Company officially announced that the nationwide tour concert 'KIM GUN MO' would begin in September. Meanwhile, a string of recent sightings has made the atmosphere even more welcoming.
Kim Gun-mo halted activities after sexual assault allegations surfaced in 2019. The prosecution, however, issued a non-indictment disposition in 2021, and appeals and a request for reconsideration were all dismissed, bringing the case to a final close in 2022. Even so, close associates say he never let go of music while away from the stage.
Fans have greeted the comeback news with enthusiastic cheers. Online communities and social media have seen a variety of reactions, including "Brother Gun-mo is finally back, this is nostalgic," "I'm excited to hear the voice I used to hear live again," and "I need to prepare to buy tickets, the ticketing war begins." One fan also said, "I'm so proud that he returned to music after a difficult time."
During his hiatus, Kim Gun-mo married pianist Jang Ji-yeon in 2020 but announced their divorce after two years and eight months, spending a quiet time in his personal life. Nonetheless, with a still-strong fandom, expectations are rising about what resonance his return will bring.
Meanwhile, ticket reservations opened exclusively on YES24 on Aug. 29, and the first performance is scheduled to take place in Busan on Sept. 27. It will then continue to Daegu in Oct., Daejeon in Dec., and Seoul in Jan. of next year, meeting fans nationwide.
