Actor Yoo Jeong-hoo expressed his gratitude to the actors he worked with on My Girlfriend is the Man.
Yoo Jeong-hoo made an impression on viewers with a passionate performance as Kim Ji-hoon in the KBS2 Wed-Thu drama My Girlfriend is the Man (written by Lee Ha-na, directed by Yoo Kwan-mo), which ended on the 28th of last month.
My Girlfriend is the Man (hereafter My Girlfriend is the Man) is a chaotic romantic comedy about girlfriend Kim Ji-eun (Arin), who suddenly becomes a pretty man overnight, and boyfriend Park Yoon-jae (Yoon San-ha), who can't give up on her. Based on the popular webtoon of the same name, the original work was also released in Chinese and Thai, proving its global popularity beyond Korea. Directed by Yoo Kwan-mo, who also directed Police University, The Woman Who Still Wants to Marry (99 Billion Won Woman), and Perfume, and written by promising writer Lee Ha-na, the series concluded on the 28th of last month after 12 episodes.
Yoo Jeong-hoo made a radical transformation as Kim Ji-hoon, the "biological alter ego" of Kim Ji-eun (Arin). Kim Ji-hoon is a character who suddenly becomes a man due to a family trait and faces major crises in love with Park Yoon-jae and in his relationships with those around him. Having built experience by appearing in Bad Girlfriend, New Romance Playlist, Cheongdam International High School, and Assidorian, Yoo Jeong-hoo impressed viewers by anchoring the drama with solid acting skills and delicate expression.
Yoo Jeong-hoo worked with Yoon San-ha, Arin and Chuu on My Girlfriend is the Man. The three share the common denominator of being active as idols. Yoo Jeong-hoo said, "All three were sincere about acting. Especially Yoon San-ha, after wrapping filming, when we had a drink together, he would talk only about the scenes shot that day; he was full of passion. Watching him honestly ask for advice about what he lacked and what he should improve taught me a lot."
About Arin, who played the same character but of a different gender, Yoo Jeong-hoo said, "Her concentration on set is really good. On set she was more immersed than anyone else and had an ability to draw in the people beside her. I think the most important things for an actor are focus and absorption, and Arin has those qualities so well that watching her made me try to emulate them."
What was the chemistry like with Chuu, who played the contrasting point? Yoo Jeong-hoo said, "Her attitude toward rehearsal, her approach to acting and the energy she brought to set were all excellent," adding, "Filming sets can be tense and difficult for everyone, but Chuu gave positive energy all day and was considerate of everyone. Because of Chuu, everyone was influenced positively and filming could continue in a much better atmosphere."
Growing as an actor and meeting good colleagues, Yoo Jeong-hoo said of My Girlfriend is the Man, "I will remember it with gratitude and happiness. I was strengthened by the people around me, who always believed in and supported me, and it's such a precious work that I wonder if there could be another set with such a good atmosphere."
