Actress Ham Eun-jung expressed gratitude to viewers.
Ham Eun-jung gave a passionate performance as Kang Jae-in in the KBS2 daily drama Queen's House (written by Kim Min-joo, directed by Hong Eun-mi and Hong Seok-gu), which concluded on the 19th.
Queen's House is a revenge drama about a woman who, after having her life stolen from her despite firmly believing she had a perfect life, fights to reclaim her life. Directors Hong Seok-gu, who showed delicate directing in many works including Beautiful Man and Oh! Samkwang Villa!, and Hong Eun-mi, who offered stylish direction in Beautiful Man, Pure-hearted Boxer and School 2021, joined forces. In addition, writer Kim Min-joo, who led the revival of daily dramas with Golden Mask, Tomorrow is Sunny and Shine On, Eun-soo, once again delivered intense immersion to viewers, and the show ended after 100 episodes broadcast on the 19th.
In Queen's House, which received much love and recorded a peak rating of 11.9% (episode 97), Ham Eun-jung played YL Group's youngest design team head Kang Jae-in. Jae-in was born into a household everyone envied, but she is a character who dreams of a simple, modest life, and an unexpected incident completely overturned Jae-in's life. Having delivered immersive performances in Sujimajeun Uri, Twist of Love and Even If I Get Fooled, Ham Eun-jung took on her first revenge drama in Queen's House, delivering thrilling catharsis and immersion and solidifying her position as the queen of daily dramas.
Ham Eun-jung's efforts were a major factor in Queen's House's success. Ham Eun-jung not only played Kang Jae-in but also provided viewing pleasure by transforming into various characters during the course of revenge. Regarding her radical transformation in the drama, Ham Eun-jung said, It was fun to transform, maybe because I wore a tiara. I think if it's necessary, you should do it, and I had no aversion to doing what was given to me.
Ham Eun-jung said, The unexpected transformations were surprising. It was important to set boundaries. The director's tactic was to make you wonder how far Jae-in had to go. I also wanted to create a middle ground while acting. I wanted to connect things more, and rather than playing multiple roles, I wanted to show something that was connected but deliberately disguised, but that part didn't come across, which is regrettable. I wanted to show how far she had to go without making it ridiculous. I think I should have been paid a bit more. The stylists really supported me. Still, I think those transformations helped viewers immerse themselves.
But there was no avoiding the physical strain. Ham Eun-jung said, Physically, I could rest one or two days a week. On intermittent off days, I had to do costume fittings in advance. If I had to go to dermatology and exercise, one day would be gone and the remaining day was spent memorizing new scripts. Using the whole week was physically taxing, and some days I didn't even have the energy to wash. That kind of physical exhaustion was a first for me. When I asked, senior actors said they took supplements well. We took care of our nutrition and balanced our stamina. We also occasionally had IV drips to replenish energy. Still, the script was fun, and shouting and expressing emotions helped relieve stress.
Ham Eun-jung said she felt sorry to everyone after injuring her leg near the end of filming. He said, I was going to go to the hospital after filming, but they told me to go quickly. Delaying shooting by a day means there will be more the following week. So I felt sorry and worried. They found a double and I continued filming while receiving treatment. Usually when an actor is injured there are many setbacks, but we rested a day and did the same schedule, he said, Adding, It was encouraging to read viewers' opinions. Knowing there are people who like and watch the show made it impossible not to keep going. When we suffer, the viewers find it entertaining. It was a force that allowed me to immerse myself and concentrate more. I also felt a desire to repay them.
Ham Eun-jung, who alternated between KBS1 and KBS2 daily dramas and was responsible for viewers' weeknight evenings, said, It was a tumultuous character, but I am truly grateful that people understood Jae-in's feelings more than me and looked on her kindly. I am thankful for ratings that exceeded expectations, and I am especially grateful for the steady viewership. Thank you for supporting my growth. Thank you for giving me your precious evening time. I hope that whenever I greet you in another work, viewers will think, 'A drama with Ham Eun-jung will be entertaining.'
