AVO Entertainment Co. Ltd., the investor-distributor of the The Outlaws series, is drawing strong interest at home and abroad with its upcoming lineups Pig Village and The Outlaws 5.
Pig Village and The Outlaws 5 will begin full-scale global pre-sales through the Asia Content & Film Market (ACFM), which opens on Sept. 20 (Sat). Marking its 20th year, ACFM is the largest content business platform in Asia, with about 2,700 registrants from corporations from 1,000 companies across 52 countries worldwide, and AVO Entertainment Co. Ltd. is also raising expectations by showcasing its main lineups. ACFM will be held from the 20th to the 23rd.
First, Pig Village is an original story set on the U.S.-Mexico border, produced and starring Ma Dong-seok, the lead actor of The Outlaws series, and directed by Lee Sang-yong, who directed The Outlaws 2 and The Outlaws 3. Hollywood actors including Michael Rooker of the Guardians of the Galaxy series, Colin O'Donnell of the Netflix series Heartbeat, emerging newcomer Rizette Olivera, and Ali Ann appear in large numbers, strengthening its global competitiveness. In particular, it is expected to attract the attention of overseas buyers because it is a Hollywood film produced 100% in Korea. Pig Village is jointly invested in and distributed by AVO Entertainment Co. Ltd. and Plus M Entertainment.
News of pre-sales for the sequel The Outlaws 5 in The Outlaws series is also a hot topic. The news has already been reported by major foreign outlets such as Screen Daily, proving the franchise's notoriety and influence as Korea's representative action franchise. The Outlaws series has surpassed 40 million cumulative viewers and repeatedly achieved 10-million-movie status for three consecutive years, establishing itself as one of Korea's most beloved series films. The Outlaws 4 drew great interest when it was pre-sold to 164 countries including North America, and pre-sales for The Outlaws 5 are also highly anticipated. The Outlaws 5 is scheduled to begin filming next year with a target release in 2027.
Meanwhile, AVO Entertainment Co. Ltd. has established itself as an emerging Korean investor-distributor by releasing consecutive hits such as The Call (2021), The Outlaws 2 (2022), The Outlaws 3 (2023), and The Outlaws 4 (2024). Since its founding in 2019, the company has secured the IP of major hits such as The Outlaws 1 (2017) and The Gangster, The Cop, The Devil (2019), and is currently expanding its business scope from investment and distribution to planning and production. In particular, it has drawn industry attention by partnering on projects led by Ma Dong-seok, an actor loved in global markets beyond Korea. The upcoming lineups to be unveiled at ACFM are also expected to showcase that influence alongside global star Ma Dong-seok.
