The Seoul gayoje of 'Hangout with Yoo' has officially begun.
On the afternoon of the 20th, the MBC variety show Hangout with Yoo revealed the rehearsal site for the '80s Seoul Gayoje' main competition.
Before the main contest site was fully revealed, the contestants' song selection lists continued to be announced following last week. First, Jung Sung-hwa said he would sing Kim Seong-ho's "Kim Seong-ho's Recollection" at this gayoje. Jung Sung-hwa said, "When you listen to the song I sang the most, it feels like watching a movie. As a musical actor, I wanted to choose it to emphasize delivering the lyrics," and Lee Yi-kyung said, "If it's hyung-nim's voice, it's not recollection but more like repentance," which drew laughter.
Next, Choi Jung-hoon chose Lee Eun-ha's "Like the way you sent me with a smile," and he said, "When I was looking through 1980s lists, there are a lot of long titles. But this was a title I'd never seen before. When I listened, it was a song I knew. I just didn't know the title," and Jung Sung-hwa said, "I think it would be cool if Jung-hoon sang it in his vocal style."
Lee Juck said, "I was hoping Jung-hoon would do a duet. If Jung-hoon is Jannabi and Dong-gyun sings 'Nabiya,' I wanted them to do 'Jannabiya.' Their voices are so good," which made people laugh.
Choi Yu-ri selected Jang Hye-ri's "I will give you the love left to me," saying, "I actually think I chose this song at the first recording. At first I thought about doing the stage with just one instrument, but since arrangement wasn't possible, I'm still considering how to do it." Lee Juck said, "If the track comes out, I think it will be in the top three," expressing admiration.
Next, the only male-female mixed duet of the 'Seoul Gayoje' was revealed. The song selection was announced first, and they said they would sing Seoul Family's "Now." The singers for this song were Lalal and Lee Yong-jin. Yoo Jae-suk said, "I think they'll suit each other very well," and Lee Yong-jin said, "I didn't think Lalal would do an upbeat song. But since it's a gayoje, I wanted to show a stage with a twist, so I sent the love call," explaining the reason for forming the duet.
Lee Yong-jin thanked Lalal, saying, "Lalal has absolute pitch. I've never done harmony before. Lalal handled it all," and Lalal angrily replied, "I memorized the female key," then said, "I thought we would practice separately and meet, but the original key turned out to be the male key. The female part was harmony," and Lee Yong-jin bragged, "No lie, we sang it 40 times together."
Lee Yong-jin, furious from intense practice, said, "Let's not be participants who only make the gold and silver prizes shine," and Lalal said, "I told him to at least match the pitch," showing anger. It was even reported that the pitch still wasn't matching.
The next selection by Solar was Lee Sun-hee's "Beautiful Rivers and Mountains." Solar, who chose a frequent contest song, said, "The original artist, Shin Joong-hyun, kindly allowed it at a low cost." Riz chose Lee Ji-yeon's "Wind, please stop," and DinDin selected Jo Ha-moon's "Once more tonight."
In addition, the much-anticipated song choice of Lee Jun-young was revealed, and Yoo Jae-suk showed great satisfaction. He said he would sing Park Nam-jung's "Missing You" and became the only contestant with a dance song. Park Myung-soo said, "This guy is first place," and Joo Woo-jae said, "Lee Jun-young is good at singing and acting, but his specialty is dancing." Yoo Jae-suk said, "There is a separate judging panel for the Seoul Gayoje. Winners are determined by the judges' scores," emphasizing, "There will be no audience voting or viewer ARS." Next, the main rehearsal began, and Lee Yi-kyung exclaimed, "It really feels old-school." Haha said, "In the past, we used to do the opening in places like this," pointing to the audience seats. Meanwhile, special MC Kim Hee-ae arrived at the set. Kim Hee-ae came with hair rollers to faithfully recreate the 1980s hairstyle.
Kim Hee-ae chose a purple two-piece that strongly evoked the 1980s atmosphere and said she had a 15-minute gap so she prepared a second outfit for part two. Kim Hee-ae said, "I should be sincere. I must do my best," showing her commitment to the Seoul Gayoje.
The previously hidden performance order was also revealed that day. The person to open the Seoul Gayoje is Yoon Do-hyun. After Yoon Do-hyun's "You whom I happened to meet," Solar will passionately sing "Beautiful Rivers and Mountains." The stage will then continue in the order of Jung Sung-hwa, Riz, Woods, Park Young-gyu, and Ha Dong-gyun.
In the middle, the eighth slot will feature a special congratulatory stage, followed by Choi Yu-ri, Lee Yong-jin & Lalal, Choi Jung-hoon, Park Myung-soo, DinDin, Lee Jun-young, Song Eun-yi & Kim Sook, and Lee Juck in that order for the gayoje.
