The TVING series Dear X is expected to show the transformation of actor Kim Yoo-jung meeting director Lee Eung-bok.
On the afternoon of the 19th, an outdoor stage greeting for the team of TVING's new original series Dear X, invited to the 30th Busan International Film Festival, was held at the outdoor stage of Busan Cinema Center. Present were actors Kim Yoo-jung, Kim Young-dae, Kim Do-hoon, Kim Yi-kyung and producer Kim Ryun-hee CP, who talked about the work.
Dear X depicts Baek A-jin (played by Kim Yoo-jung), a woman who wears a mask to escape hell and climb to the highest place, and the stories of the Xs who were brutally trampled by her. Based on the popular webtoon of the same name, it depicts the downfall of Korea's top actress Baek A-jin, who hides a cruel nature behind a beautiful face, and the desperate love of Yoon Joon-seo (played by Kim Young-dae), who chose hell to protect her, heralding the birth of a destructive melodrama suspense.
The work was selected as an official invitation to the 'On Screen' section of the 30th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF). On the 9th, when general screening tickets opened, all seats sold out at once, proving the film's strong appeal. At this Busan International Film Festival, episodes 1 and 2 of Dear X will be screened for the first time.
Having held the first GV the day before, Kim Yoo-jung said, "Many people came and said it was fun. We will be released on Nov. 6. I hope those who came will definitely watch it," urging expectations. Kim Young-dae also chimed in, "Objectively, I thought it was fun. Please give it great expectations and interest."
Kim Do-hoon said, "Everyone worked hard to make a good work. We thought it was fun, but while previewing it we were nervous about how the audience would react. But the person next to me seemed to be immersed and watching along, so I felt proud."
Kim Yi-kyung said with a laugh, "It's my first time seeing episodes 1 and 2 today, so I'm very nervous about how it will turn out. I expect audience members will enjoy it while feeling it together."
Producer Kim Ryun-hee CP showed strong trust in director Lee Eung-bok, saying, "There is a large fandom for the original, and because the original is a solid work, it attracted a lot of interest. I asked director Lee Eung-bok to take on the directing because I thought what if he handled this interesting original, and I think it became one of the best works."
Director Lee Eung-bok is a star drama producer whose directed works such as Descendants of the Sun, Goblin, Mr. Sunshine and the Sweet Home series have each attracted attention. Therefore, the meeting of director Lee Eung-bok and Kim Yoo-jung was also cited as a viewing point for Dear X.
The actors also revealed viewing points of the work. First, Kim Yi-kyung said, "I watched a few episodes of the drama and each time I was amazed by Yoo-jung's beauty. As the story progresses to her adulthood, you can enjoy not only the acting but also her pretty visuals," which drew cheers.
Kim Do-hoon joked, "I thought you would talk about my good looks," and then said, "Only we are here today, but if you watch more, there are many people you will like. I hope you wait for those people."
Kim Young-dae expressed confidence, saying, "If you watch episodes 1 and 2 of our drama while paying close attention to the relationships among the four people here, you will feel a bit of catharsis."
Kim Yoo-jung added, "Director Lee Eung-bok, who has made many works that everyone has probably seen and liked, directed this work. His directing is, of course, the greatest charm and will likely bring the greatest pleasure of our drama."
Finally, producer Kim Ryun-hee CP said, "When asked what Dear X is, I answered that it is a perverse pleasure. Watching Baek A-jin (played by Kim Yoo-jung), you will feel a strange pleasure that makes you hate her, love her, or be unable to stop her."
He added, "You can see Kim Do-hoon and Kim Young-dae's passionate acting: Kim Do-hoon who wants to do anything for A-jin and Kim Young-dae who tries to stop things for A-jin. Watching the two male actors' different kinds of love, you will feel tremendous charm."
Dear X will be released on TVING on Nov. 6.
