Actor Gong Hyo-jin of the film "Upstairs People" expressed her feelings about reuniting with director and actor Ha Jung-woo after 13 years.
On the morning of the 19th, an open talk for the film "Upstairs People" (director Ha Jung-woo), invited to the 30th Busan International Film Festival (30th BIFF), was held on the outdoor stage of Busan Cinema Center. Director and actor Ha Jung-woo and leading actors Gong Hyo-jin and Kim Dong-wook attended and spoke about the work with Baek Eun-ha, director of the Actor Research Institute.
Among them, Ha Jung-woo and Gong Hyo-jin reunited in the same project for the first time in 13 years since the 2012 release "Love Fiction." In "Upstairs People," "Love Fiction" is depicted with its title changed to "Love Tension," adding small laughs.
Gong Hyo-jin laughed and said, "I remember Director Ha Jung-woo saying in Rollercoaster, during a crew conversation, 'Gong Hyo-jin was on it too.' This time, in 'Love Tension' there is also a line where someone says the actress acted too seriously and it wasn't great. I think that's Ha Jung-woo director's confident humor and wit," and added, "As viewers will know, Director Ha Jung-woo is very much present in the film. You can look forward to it."
She said, "Love Fiction is already a work from 13 years ago. It was a 2012 work. We were really young then. Both I and oppa (Ha Jung-woo) were much younger. At the time, while filming, it was a story about the differences between men and women. While filming, I thought the psychology that men are like this and women are like that is different."
She continued, "This time, I saw him as a director after a long time, and I felt I had to give a performance that had developed much more than back then. As a director, I thought he wanted to be satisfied and show others a more developed performance. Yesterday he complimented my great acting. I think he said it because he was drunk, and I said I would keep that comment for a long time. It was an enjoyable experience," she said with a laugh.
She also joked, "He gave me 'Bangul Bangul,' but he also had to direct, so the stress on set must have been considerable." "Bangul Bangul" is a line from "Love Fiction" in which Ha Jung-woo and Gong Hyo-jin express love in their own language, which evoked fondness.
"Upstairs People" is a film that depicts unpredictable events that occur when the upstairs couple (Ha Jung-woo & Lee Ha-nui) and the downstairs couple (Gong Hyo-jin & Kim Dong-wook) end up sharing a one-night meal together because of nightly sex-related noise between floors. Actor Ha Jung-woo attracted attention as he takes on directing for the fourth time after Rollercoaster, Heo Sam-gwan, and Lobby. The film is scheduled to be released in December.
