The body found in the car of U.S. R&B singer D4vd (real name David Anthony Burk, 20) has been confirmed to be a teenage girl, shocking the public.
On the 17th (local time), the Los Angeles County coroner's office announced that the remains of 15-year-old Celeste Rivas, who was reported missing in Riverside County on Apr. 5, 2024, were found in the trunk of a Tesla owned by D4vd. The cause of death has not yet been released, but police have classified the case as a "homicide" and are investigating.
Rivas's body was first discovered on the 8th at a tow yard in Hollywood. Police who responded to a report of a foul odor coming from the vehicle opened the trunk and found a body in an advanced state of decomposition. Local police say the vehicle was believed to have been abandoned in Hollywood Hills five days before it was found.
Particularly fueling suspicion is the fact that the victim and D4vd had the same "Shhh..." tattoo inked on a finger. Rivas's mother also tipped off TMZ, saying, "It's the 'Shhh...' pattern that was on my daughter's right index finger," and D4vd was recently seen on stage with an identical tattoo in the same location.
Also, the girl reportedly told her mother before she went missing that "I have a boyfriend named David," D4vd released a song titled 'Romantic Homicide' three years ago on the victim's birthday, Sept. 7, and an actor resembling the actual victim appeared in the music video for that song, raising the possibility that the girl and David may have been in a romantic relationship while she was alive.
When Rivas was found she was wearing black leggings and a tube top, and she had metal earrings and a yellow metal chain. The coroner's office said it "appears she was left inside the vehicle for an extended period."
D4vd is reported to be cooperating with police inquiries. It has not yet been confirmed whether he had a personal relationship with the victim. He canceled a concert that had been scheduled immediately after the incident, and performances scheduled at the Greek Theatre on the 21st and the Grammy Museum on the 24th remain unchanged for now.
Born in 2005 and raised in Houston, D4vd has collaborated with Kali Uchis, Stray Kids, 21 Savage and others, and built a global fandom with hit songs featured on the Fortnite OST and that entered the Billboard Hot 100. However, this incident is expected to deal a heavy blow to his image.
