Actor Jung Woo-sung is once again stretching into full-scale activities. After last year's personal life controversy, he appeared at an official event for the first time in about a year, and he seems to be accelerating his return across various fields including projects, advertising and events.
At the 34th Busan Ilbo Film Awards held on the 18th at Signiel Busan, Jung Woo-sung attended as the previous year's winner and took part in a handprinting event. He, who won the best actor award last year for the film Seoul's Spring, took the stage this year as a presenter and offered a brief remark: "It is always a pleasure to be part of the Busan Ilbo Film Awards. I am honored to have the opportunity to present awards as last year's winner." He also lightened the mood with a witty comment that "it is regrettable there are no films I participated in this year."
Jung Woo-sung's attendance at the Busan Ilbo Film Awards drew particular attention as it was his first official appearance since the extramarital child controversy. Last November, when the son of model Moon Gabi acknowledged he was the child's biological father, Jung became embroiled in a personal life controversy; later it emerged he had registered his marriage to a long-term partner, drawing renewed attention. At the time, Jung's side said they would "do their best as the child's father" and he refrained from official activities for a while, but this year he has been quietly preparing to return.
In fact, on Sep. 4, his agency Artist Company officially announced that "Jung Woo-sung recently signed an advertising contract with Bithumb." Earlier, on the 3rd he finished shooting the advertisement with actor Jeon Jong-seo, marking his return to advertising three years after 2022's NHN Hangame. With Jung resuming both advertising and project work in public, he has effectively declared a full return to activities.
Above all, the project drawing industry attention is the Disney+ original series "Made in Korea." Set in the 1970s and depicting a vast incident centered on ambitions for wealth and power, Jung Woo-sung plays one of the two lead roles alongside Hyun Bin in this drama. Season 1 filming is already complete, and Disney+ and the production company HYBE Media Corp quickly confirmed production of season 2, lending support. Industry insiders have expressed optimistic expectations, saying "the combination of Jung Woo-sung and Hyun Bin alone guarantees global box office success."
Signing an advertising contract, appearing at a film festival official event, and starring in a Disney+ blockbuster. Jung Woo-sung is stepping up vigorous activities after a period of absence. Even after the personal life controversy, he expressed his intention to fulfill his responsibilities as an actor, and attention is focused on what kind of comeback career reversal his return will write going forward.
