Actor Kim Da-mi takes on a mother role in the Netflix film "The Great Flood."
On the afternoon of the 19th, an outdoor stage greeting for the film "The Great Flood" (director Kim Byung-woo), invited to the 30th Busan International Film Festival, was held at the outdoor stage of the Busan Cinema Center. Actors Kim Da-mi and director Kim Byung-woo attended and introduced the work.
Kim Da-mi takes on a mother role in this work. She said "I haven't experienced being a mother or motherhood, so it was difficult. But I spent a lot of time with the child actor and tried to act like a mother and son on set." She added, "The child actor also worked very hard. It must have been really difficult. It must have been cold, too, but I want to say that their role in the film is truly remarkable."
Director Kim Byung-woo said, "To be honest, at first I didn't think about the actor's age. I thought it might be better if an actor around 40 did it. The child is about five or six years old. But when thinking about which actor would be better, I thought if you cast someone who makes you ask, 'Is that really the mother?' they would express the character much more accurately."
He added, "Actor Kim Da-mi portrays very different characters in each work in very different ways. While some people consistently maintain a similar color, this person seems to be on another bus right now. In the end, she has to express it through her acting. I think she held on to and expressed every single detail without missing anything."
Kim Da-mi said, "At first I thought it would be difficult. At first I couldn't imagine the screenplay. I wondered whether I could realize this. But I approached it with the mindset of taking on the challenge despite the difficulty."
"The Great Flood" is an SF disaster blockbuster that depicts the battle fought by those who stake humanity's last hope for survival inside an apartment submerged in water on the final day the flood struck the Earth. It will be released on Netflix on Dec. 19.
