Genie, Make A Wish, the Netflix series, stars Kim Woo-bin and Suzy in a life-or-death wager.
The Netflix series Genie, Make A Wish, which premieres Oct. 3 (Fri.) ahead of Chuseok, is a stress-free fantasy romantic comedy about a career-interrupted lamp spirit, Genie (played by Kim Woo-bin), who awakens after about a thousand years and meets an emotionless human, Ga-young (played by Suzy), and engages in a contest over three wishes. The tense wish competition between the worldly-ignorant Genie and the emotionless Ga-young raises expectations for an outrageous story. In addition to the reunion of Kim Woo-bin and Suzy, the "rom-com cheat code" duo who will deliver familiar romantic comedy pleasures, the charming actors Ahn Eun-jin, Noh Sang-hyun, Go Gyu-pil and Lee Joo-young promise colorful character play, raising anticipation.
Meanwhile, the newly released main trailer raises curiosity by depicting the unpredictable narrative of a satanic Genie and a psychopathic Ga-young. The satanic Genie, who has been granting three wishes and corrupting humans, meets a "legendary" master after about a thousand years. That master is the emotionless human Ga-young. Because she lacks emotions and is not swayed even by free wishes, Ga-young finds Genie's incessant temptations only annoying.
However, change comes between them when Ga-young, who never paid attention to wishes, proposes a life-or-death "best-of-five, first-to-three" wager to Genie. Ga-young challenges Genie's assertion that "humans will eventually become corrupt in some way," and throws out a bombshell, saying that if Genie proves it, she will make all her wishes and even let him kill her with his own hands.
Afterward, Genie and Ga-young begin to move into an unexpected relationship. The two, who had treated each other roughly by swearing or pushing from high places, sometimes share a passionate kiss, and at other times inspire excitement with a beautiful image of waltzing across time and space. But when Su-hyun, the "angel of death" who hopes Ga-young's wish is righteous (played by Noh Sang-hyun), meets Genie after about a thousand years, an odd tension arises. The emotionless Ga-young is seen shedding tears, and the satanic Genie's anger is captured, arousing curiosity, while their wager over wishes and human nature raises expectations about what story will unfold. Above all, the appearance of other people who have obtained the lamp raises questions about how their wishes might be connected to Genie and Ga-young.
Writer Kim Eun-sook said, "In Genie, Make A Wish, a Genie who grants three wishes appears alongside various characters seduced by that sweet temptation. If you follow the diverse wishes they make as if spellbound, you will finally encounter a long-lasting aftereffect and a storm of emotion," drawing interest.
The alluring fantasy romantic comedy Genie, Make A Wish will be released worldwide on Netflix on Oct. 3 (Fri.).
