A YouTuber with 1 million subscribers, SummerSummer (37, real name Lee Da-som), became embroiled in controversy over remarks about "feminism" during a live broadcast.
On the 12th, a video titled Blake Lively vs. director Justin Baldoni, who said he wasn't, legal battle update was posted on the YouTube channel "SummerSummer."
In the video, SummerSummer introduced the legal dispute between actress Blake Lively, who became known for the drama "Gossip Girl," and Justin Baldoni, the director and co-star of the film "We're the End" in which he grants.
The controversy began with a question from a subscriber. When a chat comment read, "Korea seems to be a place where saying you support feminism puts you at a disadvantage, but the U.S. doesn't seem to be like that, which is surprising," SummerSummer replied, "Why does saying you support feminism put you at a disadvantage in Korea? Why does raising your voice about women's rights put you at a disadvantage?"
She went on to say, "Is there a woman who isn't a feminist? I don't know well, maybe I haven't studied it, is that why I don't know. Don't all women support their own women's rights? Of course," drawing attention.
Reactions among netizens to the remark were divided between calling it a "statement of conviction" and criticizing it as "simplistic thinking," sparking heated debate. As the controversy spread, SummerSummer has currently set the video comments to private.
She explained on Instagram, "The comments section went crazy, I was shocked and quickly closed it. I'm still baffled that what I said, which is so obvious, would cause this much controversy," and added, "I blocked it because I don't want subscribers fighting each other in the comments."
She added, "There were malicious comments directed at me, but I don't care about that. I just don't want my video to cause division among subscribers."
