Oh My Girl's Yua spoke about her feelings after challenging acting with "Project Y" at the 30th Busan International Film Festival open talk.
On the morning of the 18th, the open talk for the 30th Busan International Film Festival took place on the outdoor stage of the Busan Cinema Center. Among them, the team of the film "Project Y" (director Lee Hwan) — actors Han So-hee, Jeon Jong-seo, Kim Sung-chul, Jung Young-joo, Lee Jae-kyun, Yua (Oh My Girl) — and director Lee Hwan attended and spoke about the work.
"Project Y" is a film that tells the story of Miseon (Han So-hee) and Dokyung (Jeon Jong-seo), who had nothing but each other, stealing hidden black money and gold bullion to escape their dire reality. Earlier, it drew attention after being officially invited to the Special Presentation section at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival.
In particular, the film drew attention for casting girl group Oh My Girl member Yua as Ha-kyung. For Yua, this marks her first acting challenge since debuting and performing with Oh My Girl, presented in a powerful film.
On this, Yua laughed and said, "The first thing I felt when I read Ha-kyung's script was that it would be a lot of fun." She also showed strong confidence, saying, "The director said that it could give people who think of the existing Oh My Girl Yua a fresh sense of betrayal."
She added, "I thought that if we did it right, we could show a different side of me, so I worked on it with enjoyment. Since it is my first acting project, I think I can show a more powerful side as an actor."
Yua joked, "As an idol, I ended up easily saying things I wouldn't normally say. That part remains memorable."
Director Lee Hwan said, "We pay attention to many things to give the audience a good sense of betrayal, and there are things we are particularly sensitive about. At the same time, we tried to keep what shouldn't be changed. Because this character is at the starting point of the story, please enjoy it."
The 30th Busan International Film Festival runs through the 26th around the Busan Cinema Center.
