From BLACKPINK member Lisa to actors Geum Sae-rok, Jeon Jong-seo and Kim Yoo-jung. A shock of daring looks swept the red carpet at the 30th "Busan International Film Festival."
On the 17th the 30th Busan International Film Festival (abbreviated BIFF) opened at the Busan Cinema Center. Actor Lee Byung-hun hosted the opening ceremony alone, and the opening film, "No Other Choice" (director Park Chan-wook, supplied/distributed by CJ ENM, produced by Moho Film/CJ ENM Studios), was shown for the first time in Korea, drawing attention.
Before the main opening ceremony the red carpet was a feast of stars. Among them, the daring dresses of certain stars caught the eyes of fans and internet users.
The first to appear was BLACKPINK member Lisa. Lisa was a "secret guest" at BIFF that day. She made a surprise visit solely for BIFF despite not having a film in the festival. At Lisa's entrance, like a surprise gift, movie fans at the scene cheered.
Especially, Lisa wore a dress befitting a K-pop icon who is the global ambassador for a French luxury brand and often wears daring outfits at Hollywood events. It was an haute couture dress from another French luxury fashion house, not one she modeled, featuring an enigmatic nude and gold-inspired color scheme and a design that clung from neck to toe.
Among other things, the chest and hips featured a structural design reminiscent of a corset, yet Lisa carried it off perfectly with her doll-like figure. The skirt line emphasized three-dimensional beauty with lace flowers in various pastel colors, and with Lisa seemingly walking wrapped in flowers on the red carpet, each step drew cheers.
Meanwhile Geum Sae-rok captivated the audience in a bold black see-through dress. Geum Sae-rok came to BIFF as a cast member of the film "Seven o'clock breakfast club for the brokenhearted." She walked the red carpet escorted by co-star Lee Jin-wook and others.
A daring cut that transformed the basic top design into a shape that rose over the shoulders toward the outside, combined with the deep black color, conveyed a strong presence. Likewise, the very short high-waist shorts, akin to black underwear, also surprised onlookers.
Above all, the black see-through fabric connecting the striking top and bottom and the jewel embellishments stitched like stars in the night sky left people speechless. Geum Sae-rok wore black sandal heels so thin and thrilling they seemed like an extension of the seams, creating the illusion of not wearing shoes. This recalled the long history of revealing looks on the BIFF red carpet.
Jeon Jong-seo, who attended with Han So-hee and Yoo A in the film "Project Y," drew attention more for her natural figure than for the dress design itself. Jeon Jong-seo, who is often summoned as having the "golden hips" after memorable leggings, airport dress fits and overseas dress fits, drew notice for the contrast between her slender waist, like a human cola bottle, and her full hips on the BIFF red carpet.
In fact, Jeon Jong-seo's dress design itself was an ivory dress with a top design that even evoked a wedding gown. However, it was cut so low that her chest was exposed down to the sternum, and the side fabric gave the optical illusion of being see-through down to the waist. Moreover, the dress clung perfectly from waist to hips and flared at the lower part in a mermaid design that emphasized her distinctive hips.
Child actress-turned-actress Kim Yoo-jung, well known to the public, appeared as a cast member of the TVING original series "Dear X," escorted by co-star Kim Young-dae. But at BIFF that day there was no trace of Kim Yoo-jung's youthful image.
The dress cutting was particularly bold. Kim Yoo-jung's dress, in a deep navy blue that contrasted with the red carpet, at first looked like a long-sleeved dress with voluminous draping covering the whole body. But it featured a daring slit up to the thigh on the left leg. It seemed to show Kim Yoo-jung's transformation from a former child actor to a star returning with a "restricted thriller". However, because of this, whenever Kim Yoo-jung walked her leg was fully exposed from the side, prompting longtime fans who had followed her since childhood to clamp down on their reactions.
The bold diversification of star dress styling was one of the attractions that added meaning to BIFF's 30th anniversary. In the past, at the Pusan International Film Festival, shocking revealing dresses that exposed cleavage, upper-body lines, and even the buttocks drew particular attention. As a result, in 2014 a red carpet "no exposure" notice was issued, but over time it has gradually faded. Amid this, the stars who newly challenged daring designs drew even more attention.
