TV CHOSUN's Our baby was born again, the nation's first childbirth live variety show, has added voluntary single mother Sayuri as a "childbirth correspondent," and she said, "Every pregnant woman has a story, and it will be fascinating to learn those stories," raising expectations.
In the regular season of TV CHOSUN's Our baby was born again (directors Lee Seung-hoon, Kim Jun; writer Jang Ju-yeon; hereafter Our Baby), Sayuri, a "zen mom," joined as a member of the "childbirth correspondent" team led by Park Soo-hong as Director General. With a wider variety of mothers and stories about childbirth, Our Baby promises greater emotion and entertainment than the pilot. Sayuri said she hoped her experience would help others, noting, "I felt lonely when I gave birth. I want to help single mothers with childbirth." Sayuri will deliver candid, offbeat humor while offering blunt, reality-based advice on childbirth and parenting drawn from her own experience. Below is a Q&A with Sayuri, the "cider-remark factory."
1. Please tell us what led you to decide to appear on Our Baby and share a few words about your feelings on joining the show.
I also had a story behind having my baby. And I think everyone has a story. Through Our Baby, it will be amazing to learn those special stories, and I have high expectations because I think there will be both emotion and fun.
2. Do you have any ties with the other childbirth correspondents you'll be working with?
There was a time I ran into Kim Jong-min at the real estate office I frequent; he was having tea, and we met by chance then. He said he was going to see a house, so I just followed along. But I kept saying, "We are not dating," whenever we visited houses because I thought people would gossip if we looked at houses together. Then a realtor said, "We keep these secrets well," which made me more suspicious.
Park Soo-hong took great care of me when I appeared on the program Dongchimi, and when I said on the show that I was having some financial difficulty, he immediately sent me galbitang. I was very grateful. I was so surprised to hear that Son Min-su, despite being young, was becoming a father of twins. When you talk to him, he seems smart and family-oriented, so I think he will be a good father.
3. What would you like to learn or see through Our Baby going forward?
I think it's been about 20 years since I came to Korea, and back then foreigners were mainly in Itaewon. Now many foreigners love Korea, they visit for travel, study Korean, and live here. That has led to more international marriages. I want to help those people through their childbirth experiences by being by their side. And another thing: I want to help single mothers with childbirth because I felt lonely when I gave birth. Other people come holding their husbands' hands, but I was alone... I know that lonely, fearful feeling and I really want to help.
4. What do you want viewers of Our baby was born again to know about childbirth or this program? Please share a viewing point.
Being born into this world means someone gave birth to you. It's a good opportunity to reflect once more on how parents struggled and worked hard preparing for childbirth and bringing you into the world.
