"Questions from Sohn Seok-hee" Lee Young-ae spoke about her thoughts on the long hiatus as an actress.
On the 17th broadcast of MBC "Questions from Sohn Seok-hee," actress Lee Young-ae appeared and shared candid thoughts about her eight-year hiatus.
That day Sohn Seok-hee asked, "Haven't you ever thought about disappearing after being seen only at your peak?" Lee Young-ae said, "When I was young, there were times I suffered from outrageous fake news. At those times (wanting to disappear) saying I never had such thoughts would be a lie. Enduring all that and thinking now, I want to go thinly and for a long time," she said candidly.
When Sohn Seok-hee asked, "Can't you be thick?" Lee Young-ae laughed and explained, "I want to go a little thicker and for a long time. If I'm thicker it feels burdensome. I also have a sense of responsibility, and as I age one or two years at a time, I can't be overwhelmed by work. Balance is necessary."
Also, Lee Young-ae had an eight-year acting hiatus after marrying a Korean-American businessman in 2009 and giving birth. When asked whether she had any anxiety about that, Lee Young-ae replied, "If I say I didn't, that would be a lie, but there were many good things, so I don't think I regretted it."
Sohn Seok-hee then asked, "Didn't you feel regret that as an actress you never showed the public your prime youthful self?"
Lee Young-ae, who married late at 38, said, "I married late for that to be the case. If I had married in my 20s or 30s, I think there would have been regret. I think I would have been very depressed. Going through trial and error helped me harden my resolve, so to speak. 'Dae Jang Geum' and 'Sympathy for Lady Vengeance' also received a lot of love and seemed to comfort me. They didn't give me major risk," she said frankly.
