Kakao Entertainment (hereafter Kakao Entertainment) is drawing attention by announcing the exciting fall comebacks of actors from its management labels. Kim Goeun returns with a healing drama that depicts lifelong friendship, Suzy offers a bubbly, charming fantasy rom-com, and Han Hyojoo stars in a soft, heart-fluttering romantic comedy, all set to captivate viewers with their unique charms across various genres.
Kim Goeun (BH Entertainment), who has delivered compelling performances in a variety of roles from the eldest daughter of a poor family to an ordinary woman in her 30s and a charismatic MZ shaman, portrays a friendship that weathers a lifetime of meetings and partings, offering special emotion and healing this fall. She plays Eunjoong, a seemingly ordinary but honestly magnetic character, in the Netflix series You and Everything Else (directed by Jo Youngmin, written by Song Hyejin), released on the 12th.
You and Everything Else climbed onto today's top 10 series in Korea immediately after its release and entered the top 10 in 14 countries, drawing attention (according to FlixPatrol). The story confronts all the times of two friends, Eunjoong and Sangyeon, who like, admire, envy and resent each other at different moments across a lifetime. Kim Goeun delicately portrays the long-standing inner conflicts and emotional shifts toward her admired and resented friend Sangyeon (Park Jihyun), adding depth and emotion to the narrative. The characters' transformations across ages from their 20s as college students to their 30s as young professionals and into their 40s, as well as era-appropriate fashion changes from the 1990s to the 2020s, evoke nostalgia.
With Kakao Entertainment and its affiliated studios and management labels recently creating synergies and receiving positive responses for various projects, interest is high in You and Everything Else, produced by Kakao Entertainment and starring Kim Goeun. In addition, Kim Goeun plans another acting transformation in the Netflix series The Price of Confession (directed by Lee Junghyo, written by Kwon Jonggwan), set for release this fall. She will play Mo Eun, a mysterious figure nicknamed "the witch" among prison inmates for her ability to see through others and quickly read their psychology, showcasing a completely different genre charm that has drawn fans' attention.
Suzy (Management Soop) will stir excitement among global viewers in the Netflix series Genie, Make A Wish, which premieres Oct. 3. The stress-free fantasy romantic comedy follows Genie, the spirit of a lamp awakened after about a thousand years, who meets the emotionally detached human Gayoung and engages in antics over three wishes. True to her status as the nation's first love, Suzy plans to deliver not only a heart-fluttering romance but also delightful laughs. Interest is rising in Suzy's acting transformation as Gayoung, an oddly beautiful psychopath in the story's original universe, and her dazzling fashion and radiant visuals revealed in recently released stills have been trending daily.
Suzy will also meet audiences in theaters through the film Seven a.m. Breakfast Club for the Heartbroken (directed by Im Seonae). Adapted from the novel of the same name, the film follows a breakfast club where people with various backstories exchange "breakup mementos" and overcome the pain of loss. Suzy plays the flight attendant Sagang, who has been heartbroken but cannot let go, and will present a deeper emotional performance. The film was officially invited to the competition section of the 30th Busan International Film Festival, which opened on the 17th, drawing attention.
Han Hyojoo (BH Entertainment) is set to return Oct. 16 in the Japanese Netflix series Romantic Anonymous (日本語表記:Netflixシリーズ「匿名の人たち」) (directed by Tsukikawa Shou, written by Kim Jihyun), generating anticipation. Co-starring with Japanese actor Oguri ?, the film is a romantic comedy that depicts how two wounded people with secrets gradually come to each other through chocolate. Han Hyojoo will play Lee Hana, a genius chocolatier with scopophobia, and is expected to deliver the quintessential sweet rom-com performance. Based on a French film and produced cooperatively by Korean and Japanese actors and crew as part of Netflix's Japan team global project, it was also invited to the Busan International Film Festival's "On Screen" section, raising expectations among fans worldwide.
IU and Park Boyoung, who proved their acting skills this first half of the year by playing dual roles in different works, are already drawing attention for their new projects to be released next year. IU (EDAM Entertainment) received praise for delicate performances as mother Oh Aesoon and daughter Yang Geummyeong, who lived in different eras, in the Netflix series When Life Gives You Tangerines, and now transforms into a second-generation chaebol in MBC's new Friday-Saturday drama 21st Century Grand Lady (planned by Kang Daeseon, written by Yoo Ahin, directed by Park Junhwa).
Set in a 21st-century constitutional monarchy Korea, the story follows Seong Heeju, an exasperating woman from a wealthy family who has every advantage but is officially a commoner, and Prince Ewan, a sad man who, as the king's son, can't have anything. It is a destiny-forging, class-defying romance. IU plays Seong Heeju, the capable second daughter of a chaebol family who possesses beauty, intelligence and competitiveness but is limited by her commoner status, and she will show a different character transformation while working opposite Byeon Wooseok, who plays Ewan. Produced by MBC and Kakao Entertainment, expectations are growing about whether IU will continue the synergy with Kakao Entertainment after starring in When Life Gives You Tangerines under Kakao Entertainment's studio label Baram Pictures.
Park Boyoung (BH Entertainment), who moved viewers with touching performances as twin sisters in the tvN drama Our Unwritten Seoul, has already drawn strong interest for her next project, the Disney+ original series Goldland (directed by Kim Sunghoon, written by Hwang Joyoon), set to be released next year. Goldland follows Heeju, who accidentally receives a stash of gold bullion from a smuggling ring and becomes consumed by the desire to seize the gold alone amid the chaos of greed and betrayal among various figures. Having primarily played warm, human roles, Park Boyoung will take on Heeju, an airport security screener, and is expected to portray the changes driven by nature and desire in a delicate, multidimensional way, raising anticipation for Park Boyoung's dependable performance.
