Suga denied rumors of a rift with Bada, the eldest sister of S.E.S., with whom she boasts a close friendship.
On the 16th at a café in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, S.E.S. member Suga met with OSEN for an interview.
Suga, who debuted in 1997 as part of the SM Entertainment girl group S.E.S., formed a trio with Eugene and Bada and established herself as a representative first-generation idol, producing numerous hit songs such as "I'm Your Girl", "Oh My Love", "Dreams Come True", "I Love You", "Running", and "Embracing". They enjoyed great popularity across generations and left fans disappointed when they disbanded in December 2002, but they surprised fans with a full-group reunion in 2016.
Suga married former handsome basketball player Lim Hyo-seong in 2010, welcomed one son and two daughters, and built a happy family, but she faced the greatest crisis of her life when a gambling scandal erupted. After deep reflection and penance, she shed tears of repentance on an internet broadcast in 2022, three years later, but during that process an unexpected "revealing outfit" controversy broke out, and afterward Bada reportedly criticized Suga about the outfit, which led to rumors of a rift.
After going through all the twists and turns and returning as the person Yoo Soo-young, she recently launched a YouTube channel, "Human That's Suga," and once again appeared before the public, candidly addressing rumors such as her husband's divorce speculation. She is currently active in broadcasting, developing health supplements, working on cosmetics-related businesses, resuming acting activities, and regularly volunteering at a disability association.
Suga mentioned the special S.E.S. friendship, saying, "Actually, due to personal circumstances, it became difficult for me to be active in the entertainment industry and I even signed with Bada's sister's company. At that time she told me, 'Don't go elsewhere; stay by my side.' For a few years I worked under her company's management."
About the circulating rumors of cutting ties and a rift with Bada, she asked rhetorically, "I'm really just staying still, yet divorce rumors come out, and after the divorce rumors end, this time a rift rumor comes out. Do they want something bad to happen to me?" She added, "We didn't fight; we just spoke as sisters, so would that be a fight or a rift?"
She continued, "When Bada and Eugene take photos, article headlines always say, 'Suga is missing' or 'Suga and Bada are not getting along.' I also have photos with Eugene. (Laughs) I just don't post them on social media. If I posted that photo, they would probably say, 'Bada is missing again.'" She expressed regret, saying, "I don't want to be used, so I watch from afar. I even asked Bada, 'Rumors of a rift are coming out about us; is that what the fans want?'"
Suga also dismissed the cutting-ties rumors, saying, "Even if I say it's absolutely not a rift, they won't believe it," and added, "(The S.E.S. relationship) isn't the kind where you say 'I will never see you again' and then never see each other. Recently Bada texted me, 'Sooyoung, congratulations on returning to YouTube,'" ending the cutting-ties speculation. (Interview part 2 to follow)
