The country's first live childbirth broadcast variety show, returning as a regular program, TV CHOSUN's 'Our baby was born again' had Jang Seo-hee and Son Min-soo, representing the "birth correspondents," send a video message to the president.
On the 16th, the regular first broadcast of TV CHOSUN's entertainment show 'Our baby was born again' (directed by Lee Seung-hoon and Kim Joon, writer Jang Joo-yeon) revealed the delivery of a mother expecting quadruplets. The mother, who was one day away from giving birth to quadruplets, spoke about the difficulties of multiple births. The mother said that taking all four children to a postpartum care center after delivery would be a large economic expense. She also noted that although there is a "first meeting voucher benefit" that the state provides for newborns, if parents apply to the government for the voucher after giving birth it can take two weeks to a month to be paid, so because hospital bills and postpartum care center fees are incurred at once after birth, they were worried about the practical problems.
Moreover, the quadruplets were expected to be born underweight at less than 1.5kg, and both fetal insurance and child insurance had refused to cover them, leaving them without insurance. Also, because the mother was carrying multiples, she had taken "aspirin" during pregnancy to prevent conditions like preeclampsia, high blood pressure and diabetes, and that prescription history made insurance enrollment impossible. Park Soo-hong said, "Insurance coverage is more urgently needed… taxes should be used for things like that. They can't get basic insurance," expressing sorrow for the situation faced by the quadruplets' parents. Jang Seo-hee and Kim Chan-woo joined in, saying, "We hope this becomes widely known so the system will change."
In response, 'expectant twin father' Son Min-soo, representing the "birth correspondents," sent a video message to the Minister of Health and Welfare, saying, "Please pay attention to fetal insurance for expectant mothers and fathers." Then Jang Seo-hee joked, "I'm past the age of 40 and have nothing to fear," and asked politicians including the president, "Those in politics, please look at what parents need and create a society where working mothers can work with peace of mind."
Meanwhile, the quadruplets, cheered on by the "birth correspondents," were born after an urgent operation involving about 20 medical staff and are regaining health in the intensive care unit. For the "birth correspondents" who watched, it provided a deeply moving experience as they witnessed the miraculous moment of new life.
