Singer and actress Suga apologized, saying she usually tries to focus on her husband's strengths and that her recent remarks on YouTube were a joke.
On the 16th, at a cafe in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, S.E.S. member Suga met with OSEN for an interview.
Suga, who debuted in 1997 as part of the girl group S.E.S. under SM Entertainment, formed a trio with Eugene and Bada and established herself as a representative first-generation idol, producing numerous hits such as "I'm Your Girl", "Oh My Love", "Dreams Come True", "I Love You", "Running", and "As I Embrace You". She gained great popularity across generations and left fans disappointed when the group disbanded in December 2002, but they made a surprise full reunion in 2016.
Suga married former handsome basketball player Im Hyoseong in 2010 and had one son and two daughters, building a happy family, but faced the greatest crisis of her life when a gambling scandal broke out. After deep reflection and remorse, in 2022, three years later, he shed tears of repentance on an internet broadcast, but an unexpected "revealing outfit" controversy arose during that process, and afterward Bada publicly criticized Suga about the outfit, sparking rumors of discord.
After going through all the trials and tribulations and returning as the person Yoo Sooyoung, he recently launched the YouTube channel "Human That's Suga" and once again appeared before the public, candidly addressing rumors such as his divorce from husband Im Hyoseong. He is currently active in broadcasting, health food development business, cosmetics-related business, resuming acting activities, and regularly volunteering with an association for people with disabilities.
Suga said she started YouTube at the suggestion of a writer she has known for a long time, "Originally my husband had no plans to appear, but he said, 'If there's something I can do, I'll do it.' The writer also knew Hyosung well and had seen their chemistry, so he was happy to appear together. But even though my husband said that, he's very cautious by nature and kept worrying, 'I think we should be careful..' But when the video was released, there were really many fans of Hyosung in the comments. Even if he pretends not to care on the surface, he looks up all the comments and cares more than anyone," she laughed.
Suga and Im Hyoseong live as a weekend couple. They live separately in their own homes, but on weekends Im Hyoseong visits his wife Suga and their three children to spend time together.
On this, Suga said, "Because divorce rumors spread so much, if you put two coffee cups down people think, 'They live together.' (laughs) By nature I'm not the type to rebut every single thing like that," and added, "We think our family has its own color. Each household has its circumstances and environments are different. There will be many different colors, but everyone is happy. Living like this is our color and our distance. You can't say one way is right. This level of distance in Hyosung's and my tendencies isn't bad. It's working well for the children," she said.
Recently on "Human That's Suga," Suga surprised those around her by asking her husband Im Hyoseong the shocking question, "Don't you have any decent girlfriends these days?"
She said, "I think the fluttering feeling itself, not 'I love you' or 'I like you,' is very important in a person's life. It seems like an instinctive feeling to live in this world. Without that feeling of excitement, you'd be no different from a robot," and added, "That's why I asked the question, and because I said it as a joke, if my husband had taken it as a joke it would have passed off amusingly, but he looked too serious in front of the camera." She repeatedly apologized to those who were uncomfortable with her remarks.
When asked, "There were many compliments for your husband Im Hyoseong in the comments," she said, "I also try to keep thinking about my husband's good qualities. I'm open-minded, but my husband is really conservative. But if both sides in one household are completely open, that's not necessarily good either.
