Group Monsta X (MONSTA X) has written another brilliant record in the global music market with their new release, The X (THE X).
On the Sept. 20 chart published by U.S. music trade Billboard on the 16th (local time), Monsta X's new mini album The X, released on the 1st, entered the U.S. Billboard main albums chart, the Billboard 200, at No. 31. This marks Monsta X's first entry on Billboard's main chart with a Korean album, creating a new milestone as they celebrate their 10th anniversary.
In addition, Monsta X achieved the feat of charting on six Billboard charts, landing at No. 3 on World Albums, No. 5 on Independent Albums, No. 6 on Top Album Sales, No. 6 on Top Current Album Sales, and No. 25 on the Billboard Artist 100.
Previously, Monsta X first entered Billboard with their first U.S. studio album All About Luv, released in 2020, which reached No. 5 on the Billboard 200. Their second English album, The Dreaming, also appeared on that chart for two consecutive weeks, solidifying their presence in the global music market; with The X achieving strong results, they again demonstrated a clear presence in the global music market on their 10th anniversary.
The X condenses Monsta X's past 10 years; it can mean "the only complete unknown," and it also connects to the Roman numeral X (10), suggesting numerous possibilities and new directions. As an album that symbolizes Monsta X's 10 years and announces the return of the six members as a complete group, it carries added significance.
After its release, The X also drew attention and praise from major foreign media. In an interview with Monsta X, U.S. music magazine Rolling Stone said The X showed the members' growth as artists, with participation in writing, composing, arranging and song selection, and U.S. business magazine Forbes reviewed Monsta X's 10-year journey, praising their "pioneering spirit" derived from a wide musical spectrum across languages and genres through Korean, Japanese and English albums and spotlighted that they have established themselves as an icon in Korean music.
With such a heated global response to The X, Monsta X opened a new beginning for the complete group, entering the Billboard 200 as the first Korean album to do so and topping six charts, marking a hotter and more intense new start than ever.
On the 1st, Monsta X released their new mini album The X (THE X) and met fans through music shows and various content. They plan to continue a variety of activities going forward.
