'Sinppal Talk Show — Strange Stories' MC Lee Guk-ju showed a strong interest in the death god.
During the recent filming of episode 25 of SBS Life's 'Sinppal Talk Show — Strange Stories' (hereafter Strange Stories), MC Lee Guk-ju revealed the episode's theme, "saja" and opened the conversation by asking, "This year hasn't the worldview of shamanism and death gods been expressed through K-pop? Have you seen it by any chance?"
Seol Ha-yun, appearing as a guimyogaek (guest), shouted "K-pop Demon Hunters," and the shamans all said they had seen it.
Lee Guk-ju asked, "There's a group called the Saja Boys in that movie," and continued, "I've heard that death gods intentionally appear with very handsome faces because people otherwise won't follow them. Is that true?"
In response, Cheonjishindang said, "That's right," and added, "If a death god looked only fearsome, would people follow? They sometimes appear in a comfortable, attractive form. The decisive point is that if you're bewitched by the (death god's) handsomeness and follow, you end up on the path to the afterlife."
Seol Ha-yun also asked, "The death god we know has the image of wearing a gat and a dopo; what do they actually look like?" Geulmun Dosa explained, "From olden times, death gods have had the appearance of stern generals on horseback, armed. They are like official enforcers of the afterlife. For example, they can wear silk, and they can wear skirts and jeogori; there are also folktales about female death gods who wear red clothing."
Trot singer Seol Ha-yun and comedian Jeong Ho-cheol participate as guimyogaek (guests), and shamans including Jeong Mi-jeong of Cheonjishindang, Ham Yoon-jae of Myeonghwadang, Kim Mun-jeong the Geulmun Dosa, Jo Man-shin the Heavenly Executioner General, Choi Min-hee of Suhwadang, and Kim Tae-hyun of Myeongjiam each relay eerie and chilling stories about the "saja." They will be revealed on the 16th at 10:10 p.m. on SBS Life's "Strange Stories."
