"I was afraid of family debt" KCM explains why he revealed his family after 13 years
On TV Chosun variety show Chosun's love, KCM shared a painful family story that kept him from revealing his family, and it was even more moving because his wife and daughter discouraged him from doing so.
On the broadcast of TV Chosun's variety show Chosun's love on the 15th, singer KCM revealed his marriage and two children for the first time in 13 years and opened up about the circumstances he had to hide until now. KCM said his wife is currently pregnant with their third child, announcing that he will be the father of three children.
Kim Byung-man introduced KCM on the broadcast, saying, "I decided to meet some parenting experts. A parenting senior who will help me." In response, KCM said, "I was actually surprised when I saw Byung-man hyung's article, and I thought about calling or texting but ended up not doing it. When it was first revealed in the article, I received a lot of texts from colleagues," expressing his cautious feelings. He added, "From experience, I felt sorry to reply. So I deliberately did not contact them."
KCM candidly explained why he had to keep his family hidden for 12 years. He said, "I lived in solitude," and especially, "Actually I had a lot of debt. I was so afraid that if I got married it would become family debt," he confessed. He went on to say, "Fortunately, I paid off all the debt and when repayment ended in 2021, my wife and I cried as we registered our marriage," explaining the background for why he had to hide his family.
KCM continued, "Honestly, I was very scared even when it was revealed in an article. I felt self-disgust and cowardice for hiding my family for more than 10 years. I thought there would be people who would be surprised and insult me when it was made public." He added, "Because being a public figure is a profession that allows you to work and live under the public's love and gaze, I had to put everything down at that time and reveal my family." Kim Byung-man also said, "I know what you mean," showing deep empathy.
KCM also said, "Actually my wife and my eldest child discouraged me from revealing the family. They asked, 'Dad, are you really okay with this?' but I said I only needed them and that I didn't care if I lost everything else." He said, "I didn't care if I received public criticism or if it made entertainment activities difficult after going public," and his desire to live as a proud father and husband moved listeners.
