'Questions by Sohn Seok-hee' will have actress Lee Young-ae as its guest this week. Lee Young-ae, who has occasionally appeared on variety shows, is making a deliberate appearance on a full-fledged talk show. Host Sohn Seok-hee said he felt moved, noting, "I failed to invite her a full 25 years ago and finally met her a quarter-century later."
'Questions' follows actress Lee Young-ae's filmography and compiles the heyday of Korea's film and drama history. Lines she delivered long ago still remain in everyday speech among the public and retain vitality. The famous "Shall we eat ramen?" (Spring Day Is Gone) and "Mind your own business" (Sympathy for Lady Vengeance) are examples. Lee Young-ae said she reluctantly tossed out "Mind your own business" when Sohn Seok-hee requested it and felt very sorry afterward.
This year marks the 25th anniversary of the screening of Joint Security Area (JSA), in which Lee Young-ae appeared, and the 20th anniversary of Sympathy for Lady Vengeance. In addition, Lee Young-ae did eight works with Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC), including Dae Jang Geum, so for MBC, which once prided itself as a drama kingdom, its own archive alone can portray Lee Young-ae's heyday.
Now in her mid-50s, the "oxygen-like woman" still takes on new dramas, and Sohn Seok-hee, seriously and sometimes with lighthearted banter, confirms that this actress continues to breathe life into the public. In response to Sohn Seok-hee's question, "If you had to put exactly one work into a time capsule of dramas and films, what would you put in?," Lee Young-ae answered, "Of course Dae Jang Geum, but I would like to leave at least one space for a good work that may come after this time," expressing a desire for an ever-burning passion for acting as she ages.
Now in its third season, 'Questions by Sohn Seok-hee' has been attracting attention each episode and has been bringing guests who were difficult to meet to the studio. Regarding who the next guest after Lee Young-ae will be, the production team declined to say, noting, "It will probably be a figure currently receiving the most attention at home and abroad."
MBC's 'Questions by Sohn Seok-hee,' featuring Korea's representative actress Lee Young-ae, will air on Sep. 17 (Wed.) at 9 p.m.
