A former model-turned-entrepreneur, Cool K (real name Kim Do-gyeong), regretted a past in which he committed military service fraud and paid the price.
On the 14th, Cool K posted a video on his social media reflecting on his life. He opened up, saying "the choice I regret most in my life. I also have one choice in my life that I deeply, deeply regret. When I was in my 20s, I really hated going to the military. I made a terribly wrong choice (military service fraud)."
He went on, "After that I was so ashamed and embarrassed that I tried in every way to change the past and tried to forget it, but the more I tried the more I became trapped by the mistake I had made," and calmly expressed his regret, saying, "People still point fingers at me. I deserve to be pointed at for the rest of my life. Whether I completed my military service, attended reserve forces and civil defense, or fully fulfilled my military obligations isn't the important thing. The important thing is the wrong choice, the mistake. But can you change your past choices?"
He added, "No matter how much you try and no matter how much you regret it (for 20 years) and make a scene crying and screaming, even that is part of my life. It's so obvious, but it took me too long to accept it. And I realized something," and said, "There is something we can change. It's the choices from now on. You just have to work harder than the regret and wounds of the past. No matter how much you try, you might not achieve everything you want or change many things, but I still believe our efforts have meaning and hope," conveying that he found hope amid despair.
"Let yourself go from the past choice you regret to death. Surely much happier days are waiting for us. I believe that. Now it's time to move forward," he added.
In the past, Cool K received a grade 4 military classification by drinking a lot of coffee and tightening his sphincter to be diagnosed with high blood pressure. But when this was exposed, he was sentenced in October 2008 to eight months in prison with a two-year suspended sentence. After a public apology he enlisted as an active-duty soldier.
