The group IDID expressed its aspiration to become a global boy band following in the footsteps of its seniors at Starship Entertainment.
IDID held a showcase on the afternoon of the 15th at YES24 Live Hall in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, to commemorate the release of their first mini album "I did it." and discussed the new album.
IDID is a seven-member boy group selected through Starship's mega project "Debut's Plan," recognized for the qualities an idol should have such as dance, singing, fan communication skills, and expressiveness.
From leader Jang Yonghun to the youngest Jeong Semin, IDID, who proclaims itself the one-and-only "high-end fresh" group filled with the pleasant energy of an average age of 18, combines appealing visuals and "good vibes" to captivate K-pop fans at home and abroad.
When introduced as the younger brother group of IVE, Jang Yonghun said, "We debut following respected seniors, and from the moment I decided to become a singer I dreamed of the stage, so I'm happy to finally debut. We will do our best to become a great boy group following our seniors."
Kim Minjae added, "This is a moment we really waited for desperately, and while doing the project we had faith that we would debut. We will show the fans who supported us what a great IDID will be."
Regarding the team name IDID, Park Wonbin explained, "We carry the ambition to accomplish things. It contains confidence and the spirit of challenge that you can finish anything you start. We want to be a bold group that achieves everything from performance to connecting with fans."
IDID's debut album I did it. is an album that captures the team's unique identity by showing the members' unrefined emotions and energy as they are, conveying the conviction that you can be cool even if you're not perfect and an attitude that makes imperfection radiant.
The title track "Jamotdaero Chanranhage" is a song that carries a free and energetic sensibility; acoustic guitar and rhythmic drums drive an upbeat sound topped by the members' refreshing vocals, showing IDID's bright and cool youthful energy.
About the title track, the members said, "It's a song that represents the direction of the team. Like the lyrics that say even if you fall or get hurt that is also part of you, we hope people can be comforted and start anew through us."
Embracing a special identity as penguins, IDID said, "We include the ambition to become the first penguin on the K-pop scene. It means we will show that while each member maintains their individuality, IDID is one. It also means that fans and we are one and we fill each other's shortcomings."
As a boy group debuting from Starship Entertainment after a long time, the members' determination is exceptional. Jang Yonghun said, "It's exciting to debut as a boy group coming out from Starship five years after the respected seniors. Like our seniors, we want to showcase our abilities on world tours and at overseas festivals. We will work to meet expectations."
Park Wonbin said, "I was grateful that the seniors always smiled and cheered for us whenever we met them at sites or at the company. Monsta X's seniors advised us always to do our best, and following that advice we will be juniors worthy of their reputation," and Baek Junhyuk expressed thanks, saying, "CRAVITY's seniors advised that the stage is about momentum and not to be afraid, and Lay helped us on set and gave advice on stage manner."
IDID described their strengths as, "Even with familiarity we can show a fresh side, which is our charm point. Our average age is 18, and we want to be a distinctive group that carries the romance of this age along with hip-hop and performance."
On what sets them apart from other groups, they said, "IDID is also meeting an exciting start this year, and our strength is fun. Fortunately, before debut we had various experiences like music shows and overseas stages, so we felt how enjoyable it is to dance and sing on stage. We think our strength is being able to convey that joy to the audience as it is. Our average age is 18, so we can deliver youthful energy. We will send young energy through many stages."
Finally, on their future goals IDID said, "Our role model is the future IDID. As we have interacted with fans before, we want to keep cherishing that time and grow into a group that remains in fans' memories for a long time and is not forgotten as time passes. Our goal is to grow into a group that symbolizes an era like Bruno Mars or Coldplay," and added, "We want to do a world tour like our seniors at Starship, leave a good first impression, and furthermore win rookie awards."
