Japanese actor SAKAGUCHI Kentaro, embroiled in a "love triangle" that included cohabitation and an affair allegation, ultimately canceled his domestic schedule.
On the 15th, the Busan International Film Festival said, "We inform you that the 'Final Peace' press conference was regrettably canceled due to the guest's circumstances," and added, "We ask for your understanding regarding the sudden schedule change."
Earlier, the Japanese entertainment weekly Shūkan Bunshun raised a dating rumor on the 9th that SAKAGUCHI Kentaro was cohabiting with A, a hair and makeup stylist three years his senior. In particular, it said SAKAGUCHI Kentaro and A had been in a romantic relationship for about four years, enough that acquaintances also knew. It further announced additional reporting on a love triangle involving a top actress and SAKAGUCHI Kentaro, drawing more attention.
Among them, the alleged third person in the love triangle with SAKAGUCHI Kentaro was revealed to be Japan's top actress NAGANO Mei. According to NAGANO Mei's acquaintances, SAKAGUCHI Kentaro approached her first even while dating A, and the two were seen holding hands and enjoying dates together.
Meanwhile, this spring SAKAGUCHI Kentaro confessed his relationship with NAGANO Mei to A. A reportedly contacted NAGANO Mei directly and warned her to stop meeting him. A friend of NAGANO Mei told Shūkan Bunshun that SAKAGUCHI Kentaro wanted to meet NAGANO Mei but could not end his relationship with A. The friend said that at the time the dating rumor was reported, he had broken up with A.
What was even more shocking was that NAGANO Mei was also in an affair last fall with married Japanese actor TANAKA Kei. Shūkan Bunshun added that TANAKA Kei learned of the relationship between the two when, at a drinking gathering with NAGANO Mei, he heard a pet name used for SAKAGUCHI Kentaro, which added to the surprise.
When the news spread, attention focused on SAKAGUCHI Kentaro's movements ahead of his planned visit to the 30th Busan International Film Festival for the film Final Peace. The press conference was scheduled to be attended by SAKAGUCHI Kentaro and WATANABE Ken. Accordingly, on the afternoon of the 10th the Busan International Film Festival organizing committee told OSEN, "There are no changes to SAKAGUCHI Kentaro's schedule to visit at this time," but the event was ultimately canceled.
