'Sikgaek Heo Yeong-man's Baekban Journey' Choi Eun-kyung said she has never worked as a news anchor.
On the 14th episode of TV Chosun's 'Sikgaek Heo Yeong-man's Baekban Journey' (hereafter 'Baekban Journey'), former announcer and broadcaster Choi Eun-kyung appeared and set out with Heo Yeong-man to find a Changwon meal.
That day Heo Yeong-man asked, "They say you were good at studying?" Choi Eun-kyung said, "I wasn't bad," and added, "I had no dreams until I graduated from university."
Choi Eun-kyung, who majored in English education at Ewha Womans University, confessed, "I could have become an English teacher, but no matter how I looked at it, a teaching job really didn't suit me."
Heo Yeong-man asked, "So wasn't your childhood dream to be an announcer?" and Choi Eun-kyung replied, "I thought people who appear on television were somehow special and looked like dolls, and that only those people could do it. That was never a lifelong dream of mine."
She added, "But I stumbled into the job, and as I did it I realized even an introverted person like me could do it." A surprised Heo Yeong-man said, "Introverted? Then what does an extroverted-looking person look like?"
Choi Eun-kyung said, "When there's a camera, I pull from my diaphragmatic center," but Heo Yeong-man jokingly said, "Don't say that around people," as he refused to believe it, drawing laughter.
Heo Yeong-man asked, "Did you pass the announcer exam on your first try?" Choi Eun-kyung answered, "No. I really thought if I failed this I wouldn't do it. After a year of trying, KBS was the last one. I tried all sorts of things."
Choi Eun-kyung did reporting, radio DJ work, the 1998 World Cup program, and after leaving in 2002 she switched to freelance work.
Then Heo Yeong-man asked, "Did you ever do anchoring?" and Choi Eun-kyung said, "That's the only thing I didn't do," adding, "But I thought news anchors were cool so I wanted to be one. How could no one ever ask me? Someone should have seated me, but even with me there they said, 'There are no people,' and ended up choosing someone else. How could no one ever ask me?" expressing regret.
