"Let's Go Go season 5" actor Jang Hyuk explained his relationship with Jun Ji-hyun and god.
On the 13th aired MBN real variety "Let's Go Go season 5" (hereafter "Let's Go Go"), actor Jang Hyuk appeared. Serious about acting and boxing, he chose a boxing gym as the opening location. Jang Hyuk said, "Actually, I was already here during the pre-interview and when the cameras were being set up," surprising everyone.
Park Jun-hyung said, "I shared lodging with Jang Hyuk at Sidus in 1996. I met god in 1997," boasting of his closeness with Jang Hyuk. Park Jun-hyung said, "This guest is closer and better looking than god. I knew him before his armpit hair grew, he's clumsier than anyone. His looks are still the same," adding that his first impression of Jang Hyuk was that he was very handsome, pretty, and looked sad.
Jang Hyuk said, "There were two lodging places. One was in Umyun-dong and another place. I lived in Umyun-dong, and when god's members formed, I moved to the other place," and regarding his first impression of Park Jun-hyung said, "Park Jun-hyung was a healthy and handsome American, but after moving into the lodging he became a sad American."
The reason they thought of each other as sad was the grueling trainee life before their debut. Due to the agency's financial problems and such, they did not receive proper care and even struggled to get meals. Park Jun-hyung said, "When I came to Korea I weighed 88~91kg and was in great shape. Within a year and a half I became 63kg. People say that's cool, but if you just starve yourself that's what happens," surprising everyone.
Jang Hyuk said, "Park Jun-hyung losing weight isn't even a topic. We were all starving so everyone was losing weight," and added, "Back then there was a friend of Park Jun-hyung named 'Heng'. The first thing he said when he was learning Korean was 'I'm hungry, give me food.' So bad was it that Heng said, 'I'm eating shrimp porridge,' and when we wondered what that meant he had crushed shrimp crackers, poured water over them and was eating that."
Jang Hyuk explained that he taught the god members things he had learned as an actor. Jang Hyuk said, "When I learned acting I learned how to play the lead role," and "Like when learning a language, acting requires listening." Hong Hyun-hee said, "So did Jang Hyuk create Yoon Kye-sang's Jang Chen?" expressing surprise. Jang Hyuk replied, "It's not like that, but it probably helped a bit," and grinned.
Jang Hyuk recalled a touching anecdote about Yoon Kye-sang, saying, "Yoon Kye-sang is loyal. When Yoon Kye-sang was sick and I had no money, I took him to a snack bar. I said I'd at least buy him ramen. But he said he couldn't eat by himself. Still, I scolded him to eat, saying if even Yoon Kye-sang collapsed what would the remaining members do."
Jang Hyuk was also in the same agency as Jun Ji-hyun. Jun Ji-hyun, who drew nationwide attention from her debut for her striking energy and pure beauty, was like a younger sister to Jang Hyuk.
Jang Hyuk said, "I also filmed a drama with Jun Ji-hyun," and "She's just a younger sister. Until then, there were only the two of us as rookie actors. I was the male rookie, she was the female rookie. We practiced acting together. So she's just a younger sister," which brought laughter.
