Singer Baek Yerin participated in drama music for the first time in five years.
Baek Yerin will release "Close To You (From 백번의 추억)" at 6 p.m. on the 14th through various online music sites. This song is a new interpretation in Baek Yerin's voice of the classic "(They Long To Be) Close To You," which the Carpenters released in 1970 and was loved worldwide.
Baek Yerin respected the original song's pure and elegant sensibility while adding a vintage acoustic sensibility to complete a restrained and warm resonance. The arrangement was jointly handled by drama music director Kwon Young-chan and singer-songwriter Kang Ji-won. Rather than flashy arrangements, the two carefully captured the breath and resonance of instruments in a small space, infusing the entire song with an analog texture.
In particular, this release is significant because it marks Baek Yerin's return to drama music about five years after tvN's "Crash Landing on You." Also, as the first case of officially presenting the Carpenters' "(They Long To Be) Close To You" as a formal remake recording, it is expected to attract special attention along with the drama.
The drama "백번의 추억" is a newtro youth melodrama set in the 1980s that tells the story of the bright friendship between 100th bus attendant Youngrye (Kim Da-mi) and Jonghee (Shin Ye Eun), and the poignant first-love story of Jaepil (Heo Nam-jun), who is involved with them. Baek Yerin's lyrical voice and analog arrangements are expected to resonate deeply with the characters' fateful narratives and add profound resonance to the drama's development.
In particular, this song carries an intimate and lyrical air as if taking out an old record, revealing the essence of the emotion of love in the purest way. It adds delicate texture to the drama's moments of first love and the narrative of friendship, heightening anticipation for the story to unfold.
Meanwhile, "Close To You (From 백번의 추억)", which features Baek Yerin, will be available to listen to on various online music sites from 6 p.m. on the 14th.
