Singer Yu Seung-jun (Steve Yoo), who has been banned from entering Korea for more than 20 years over allegations of evading military service, struck back at composer Yoon Il-sang's remarks.
On the 13th, Yu Seung-jun revealed his second son Jian for the first time through his personal YouTube channel. He also posted a lengthy message in the description of the video.
Yu Seung-jun said, "Watching Jian, who always works hard, reminds me of my own childhood. When I was Jian's age, I rebelled and wandered a lot," adding, "It's not that he excels at something in particular, but seeing him work hard and live earnestly in his own way makes me so grateful."
He continued, "Then and now I have a loving wife who has stood by my side. Today I live with a sense of indebtedness because of the people I love. There are times my heart breaks because of twisted truths and distorted sincerity. But the reason I find strength again is also because of the people I love," he explained.
In particular, Yu Seung-jun said, "Some people think I want to go to Korea for profit-making activities. I am already very happy and grateful,"
He added, "I pray that all the misunderstandings that stand between us will be resolved. But even as things are now, I already lead a life that is more than I deserve. I am grateful and I love you all."
Some have interpreted these remarks as a rebuttal aimed at Yoon Il-sang's recent comments. On the 10th, Yoon Il-sang criticized Yu Seung-jun's controversy on his personal YouTube channel.
Yoon Il-sang said of Yu Seung-jun's popularity at the time, "It was incomparable to today's G-Dragon. His stage performance was remarkable," but he added, "It seemed his heart was always in the United States. Korea was business, and his home to return to appeared to be the United States," he speculated.
Regarding the allegation of evading military service, Yoon Il-sang said, "It was an absurd choice. He made promises and boasted to the public. If he couldn't keep that, he should offer a sincere apology. An apology must be made until the person who receives it accepts it. It felt like a betrayal of the nation."
Yoon Il-sang said he is still in contact with Yu Seung-jun and added, "Even if Yu Seung-jun doesn't look at me because of the video, there's nothing I can do. I don't personally hate him, but as an entertainer, Yu Seung-jun was clearly in the wrong," he pointed out.
