BigHit Music's new hit CORTIS dominated the album charts.
According to Hanteo Chart, a site that compiles album sales, CORTIS (Martin, James, Juhun, Sunghyun, Geonho)'s debut album COLOR OUTSIDE THE LINES sold 381,991 copies five days after its release. With this, CORTIS secured the top spot for first-week sales (weekly album sales from the release date) among boy groups that debuted this year. Considering that two days remain in the reporting period, this is a remarkable achievement.
Following the album charts, CORTIS swept global music charts, showing the promise of this year's top rookie. The debut album's intro track GO! held the No. 1 spot on Spotify's Daily Viral Songs Global for three consecutive days (Sept. 9-11). It followed the success of the title track What You Want, which topped the same chart for a week (Sept. 1-7). Among rookies who debuted this year, CORTIS is the only team to reach No. 1 on that chart. Moreover, having two songs reach the top consecutively is encouraging.
According to Spotify's latest data (Sept. 11), the five tracks on the debut album have nearly 20 million cumulative streams. The group's monthly listeners (number of listeners over the most recent 28 days) exceed 2.15 million, demonstrating a strong presence.
CORTIS is the rookie group HYBE Music Group's label BigHit Music introduced in six years. They are scheduled to appear on MBC's Show! Music Core on Sept. 13 and SBS's Inkigayo on Sept. 14 to perform the follow-up track FaSHioN. The song pairs a heavy hip-hop sound with lyrics reflecting teenagers' lifestyles. It is gaining popularity amid evaluations that BigHit Music's signature hip-hop, which captivated K-pop fandoms worldwide, has returned.
