'The Mantis: Original Sin' Why did serial killer Go Hyun-jung come to be revered?
On the 12th, the third episode of the SBS Friday-Saturday drama 'The Mantis: Original Sin' (directed by Byun Young-joo, written by Lee Young-jong) aired and flipped living rooms upside down. The truth of the first murder by the serial killer 'The Mantis,' Jeong I-shin (played by Go Hyun-jung), who had not previously been revealed to the world, was uncovered. The shocking past of mother Jeong I-shin and the anguished cry of her police detective son Cha Soo-yeol (played by Jang Dong-yoon) made viewers' hearts drop.
As the third 'The Mantis' copycat murder occurred, Cha Soo-yeol confronted memories of his childhood while tracing the perpetrator's traces. He also found another corpse and a message left by the perpetrator. Everything was exactly as the perpetrator intended. Furthermore, the perpetrator led Cha Soo-yeol to Jeong I-shin's first murder scene. Jeong I-shin's first murder victim was her husband, who had brutally abused her and their son Cha Soo-yeol.
Meanwhile, on Sept. 13, the production team of 'The Mantis: Original Sin' released a moment from the past where Jeong I-shin and Choi Jung-ho (played by Jo Sung-ha) brushed past each other ahead of the broadcast of episode 4. The scene is noted as related to why the serial killer Jeong I-shin came to be nicknamed 'The Mantis' and why she later came to be revered by some people, drawing attention.
The released photo appears to capture Jeong I-shin before she was arrested by the police. In the photo, Jeong I-shin is staring intently at something and biting into an apple. Her clear, clean face, long black hair and bright red apple create a striking color contrast that seizes attention. At the same time, her meaningful gaze and expression provoke curiosity about what she is watching.
In the next photo, it is revealed who is in Jeong I-shin's line of sight. It is police officer Choi Jung-ho. Jeong I-shin confesses her crimes to Choi Jung-ho and asks him to watch over her son Cha Soo-yeol. It can be inferred that this is the point where the complex and delicate relationship among Jeong I-shin, Choi Jung-ho and Cha Soo-yeol began. Why did Jeong I-shin watch over Choi Jung-ho? Excitement also rises at the prospect of finally seeing the much-talked-about 'Go Hyun-jung apple' scene.
Regarding this, the production team of 'The Mantis: Original Sin' said, "In episode 4, which airs today (13th), Jeong I-shin's past will reveal why she came to be called 'The Mantis' and why some people came to revere her," adding, "Go Hyun-jung's overwhelming screen presence and command that make an intense character even more intense, and Jo Sung-ha's solid acting that enhances the story's persuasiveness and the drama's immersion will shine. Please look forward to it."
