Jeong Won-gwan of Sobangcha mentioned Lee Sang-won, who left the group after the success of the first album.
On the 12th, on the YouTube channel "Song Seung-hwan's Wonderful Life," Sobangcha member Jeong Won-gwan grants and shared stories from the group's days. Sobangcha debuted in 1987 with "The Story of Last Night" as a three-member male group and can be considered a precursor to idols.
Sobangcha's first album was a big success, but when original member Lee Sang-won left, they faced a major crisis described as "team sudden breakup."
Jeong Won-gwan laughed, saying, "Sang-won betrayed us and left; anyway, he was a gullible guy." Song Seung-hwan asked, "The three members were friends since pairing time, and after hardship the first album was a hit, so why did Sang-won say he would leave?"
Jeong Won-gwan said, "(I) actually wanted to try solo activities. At the time I was resentful, but looking back now I thought, 'It's understandable he'd be greedy.' Still, at the time he was someone you wanted to kill. (laughter) Someone around him fanned the flames, and he was also gullible. A pure kid," and added, "And at our time the Hong Kong trend was blowing strongly. People around us said, 'You look like some Hong Kong actor~ It seems you could do well if you go to Hong Kong,' so he just went to Hong Kong. We were unaware of the Sobangcha breakup article and the boss abandoned us. One day the chairman announced 'breakup,'" recalling the time.
Saying they disbanded regardless of their will, Jeong Won-gwan said, "The remaining Kim Tae-hyung and I discussed 'who will be the one we newly recruit?' and we recruited Do Geon-woo. Tae-hyung and I said, 'Let's pick a well-behaved kid.' We practiced with Do Geon-woo for four months and released the second album, which was also a great success."
