Group S.E.S member Shoo, who had announced she was living separately, and her husband Im Hyosung enjoyed a trip to Japan alone. Im Hyosung eventually exploded, saying it was awkward.
On the 12th Shoo released new content titled "Shoo & Hyosung couple go to a Japanese maid café together and what happens (infinite moe moe?r)" on her YouTube channel "Human That's Shoo."
That day Shoo and Im Hyosung headed to a maid café near Akihabara Station (a symbolic themed café of Japan's otaku culture). Shoo, seeing the café staff wearing animation character costumes, asked Im Hyosung for agreement, saying, "Aren't they cute? I think those outfits are so cute."
Im Hyosung said awkwardly, "Is that Sailor Moon or what. I don't really like this kind of thing," and Shoo explained, "Maids from outer space. People wearing maid outfits like that are really common in Harajuku. Here in Japan cosplay is not strange. It's very mainstream."
Im Hyosung continued to show resistance. When told that with a set menu you could take a photo with a maid at the photo zone, he refused, saying, "I don't want to take it. I just want to drink a beverage." He also asked Shoo, who was sitting close beside him, to move over, saying, "You're too close."
Shoo said, "Koreans' reactions are completely different," and Im Hyosung exploded, saying, "It's not fun. It's awkward. Look at the kids sitting here. Their looks are all lecherous. They seem perverted." It was his first encounter with maid café culture, and he appeared surprised by the awkward and unfamiliar environment.
Shoo tried to persuade Im Hyosung, explaining, "Originally this area is for men who like animation, those men who like the characters. Just as I used to like Sailor Moon," and, "When an anime single OST comes out they bring goods and such. You might not be able to accept it, but actually this is the culture of this country."
Shoo and Im Hyosung recently revealed on their YouTube channel that they have been living separately for about three to four years, which became a topic of conversation.
