Son Ye-jin opened up about her share in her first comeback project after giving birth, No Other Choice.
On the 12th, a new video titled "This year's No. 1 must-see movie" was released on the YouTube channel Channel Fifteen Night. The video featured producer Na Young-seok and No Other Choice director Park Chan-wook, Lee Byung-hun, Son Ye-jin, Park Hee-soon, Lee Sung-min and Yum Hye-ran appearing together to talk.
The film No Other Choice is a work about office worker Mansu (Lee Byung-hun), whose life was so satisfying that he felt "I have achieved everything," suddenly being laid off and preparing his own war toward reemployment to protect his wife and two children and to keep the home he struggled to buy, and it opens on the 24th.
That day Son Ye-jin explained how she received the script, saying, "When I first read the script, director Park Chan-wook was going to give me the script. So I had to do my first work after marriage, and Min-jung and I are close."
She said, "(Min-jung) asked, 'Ye-jin, what's your schedule like?' I said, 'I don't have anything set yet,' and she said, 'Director Park Chan-wook is doing something with oppa and said he was thinking of you and would give you the script.' I thought, 'It's come.'"
Son Ye-jin said, "The director is someone every actor wants to work with. And when a senior said they were doing it, I thought, 'It's come' and immediately read the script. But what role am I? My part was that small," she lamented.
Director Park Chan-wook recalled what Son Ye-jin told him at the time, saying, "I went with the resolve that she might refuse. But what I thought was so cool was, 'Please make it so after the film is released my friends don't just say, 'Why did you do that?'''"
Son Ye-jin added, "I kind of threatened the director," and Park Chan-wook said, "I kept revising the script and I don't know how much care I put into the editing to keep that promise. I can say I'm really confident about this matter."
Lee Byung-hun praised their chemistry with Son Ye-jin, saying, "I felt it while shooting together and was really surprised. She is truly very good at acting," and Son Ye-jin drew laughs by complaining, "There really is no soul."
Meanwhile, Son Ye-jin married actor Hyun Bin in 2022 and gave birth to a son the following year. After appearing in the 2022 drama drama "Thirty-Nine," Son Ye-jin, who had been on hiatus due to childbirth and childcare, announces her long-awaited return with the film No Other Choice.
