CORTIS (Martin, James, Juhun, Sunghyun, Geonho) performed the follow-up track "FaSHioN" from their debut album on cable channel Mnet's "M Countdown," which aired the afternoon of the 11th. The five members dominated the stage with overwhelming performance and unbridled energy. Despite intense choreography, they delivered steady live vocals using handheld microphones and added relaxed facial acting, proving they are "stage material."
"FaSHioN" was first revealed at the "CORTIS The 1st EP [COLOR OUTSIDE THE LINES] RELEASE PARTY," held to celebrate the release of the debut album on the 8th. Audience reaction was so hot that the song was repeated three times including an encore. British rapper Skepta even posted a video on social media that day, showing notable interest from figures in the music industry.
Critics say BigHit Music-style hip-hop, which captivated K-pop fandoms worldwide, has reemerged. BigHit Music built the group's identity early in BTS's debut with intense hip-hop music and performances. In particular, the heavy melodies and lyrics that captured teenage stories — such as "throwing a fastball at cram school, which is a waste of time" ("No More Dream") — resonated with their generation.
CORTIS reinterpreted early BigHit Music hip-hop with "FaSHioN." The members expressed teenage lifestyles with vivid lyrics like "my T-shirt, 5 bucks pants, ten thousand won," "why don't you come these days / the lonely grandmother at Dongmyo," and "foreign currency talk, exchange rate goes up every day / secondhand sale."
CORTIS is a rookie group introduced by HYBE Music Group's label BigHit Music, the first new act in six years following BTS and TOMORROW X TOGETHER. They are scheduled to perform "FaSHioN" on KBS2's "Music Bank" on the 12th, MBC's "Show! Music Core" on the 13th, and SBS's "Inkigayo" on the 14th.
