Billboard highlighted singer Park Jin-Young (J.Y. Park)'s recent moves.
The presidential office announced on the 9th that it has appointed Park Jin-Young, JYP Entertainment (hereafter JYP) chief producer and chief creative officer (CCO: Chief Creative Officer), as co-chair of the Popular Culture Exchange Commission. The Popular Culture Exchange Commission was newly established to create a public-private cooperation framework needed to spread popular culture such as music, drama, film and games amid growing global interest in Korean culture.
Billboard, on Sept. 10 local time, spotlighted this on its official website and social media channels, saying, "It is unprecedented for an artist still active to be nominated for a minister-level post. Park Jin-Young debuted in 1994 and has received wide public affection, and in 1996 he founded JYP, producing numerous stars and growing it into one of Korea's leading entertainment companies. Notably, the 2009 Wonder Girls song 'Nobody' became the first Korean song to enter Billboard's main chart, the Hot 100, and recently Stray Kids became the first artist to have seven consecutive No. 1 entries on the Billboard 200 in the chart's 70-year history. Park Jin-Young and JYP have been at the forefront of pioneering the music market and achieved sustained success, and the company's overall outlook remains solid," it emphasized.
Park Jin-Young posted on his personal social media channels on the 9th, "My dream is the same. For K-pop to be loved around the world. I will work hard so that junior artists can have many better opportunities. I will do my best so that K-pop can take another leap and, beyond introducing our culture, become a space where people around the world understand and interact with one another," he said.
Since his debut in 1994, Park Jin-Young has produced his own hits such as 'Don't Leave Me', 'Propose Song', 'Honey' (Honey), 'She Was Pretty', and 'Who Is Your Mother (Feat. Jessi)', and created many classic songs for various artists in the music scene. As a representative Korean singer and producer, he has established himself as a symbol of K-pop culture.
