Netflix has confirmed production of a new series titled "Road" (working title) and announced the casting of Son Suk-ku, Nagayama Eita, Kim Shin-rok, Choi Seong-eun and Jung Jae-young.
"Road" (working title) is a Netflix series that tells the story of two detectives chasing a corpse with twisted limbs, mysterious messages and horrific murders repeated across borders. One day a grotesquely twisted corpse is found in Tokyo. And a Korean phrase written in blood nearby turns Japan upside down. Soon news arrives that a corpse with twisted limbs was found in Korea with a Japanese phrase written nearby, and the two countries realize these are serial killings. The Netflix series "Road" (working title) depicts Korean and Japanese detectives conducting a joint investigation to find clues to this mysterious case.
"Road" (working title), the new work by director Han Jun-hee—who has won acclaim from critics and fans across genres as writer-director of the Netflix series D.P., screenwriter and director of the film Chinatown, and creator of the "Weak Hero Class" series—is based on the comic "Blue Road," which was praised for its unique subject matter and tense developments. In the series "Road" (working title), writer Jo Yoo-jin of the film Pilot and director Han Jun-hee handle the adaptation, highlighting a different directional and genre appeal from the original.
Director Han Jun-hee described the project as "a transnational detective story that intensely follows two detectives as they do everything they can to catch the perpetrator." Having showcased sensory mise-en-scène and powerful storytelling in his previous works, Han Jun-hee's "Road" (working title) is expected to present newer and richer stories based on the original and deliver an even more immersive experience.
The revealed casting lineup is also eye-catching. Son Suk-ku—known for the Netflix series "The Murderer Is Unrecognizable," the D.P. series, and dramas such as drama "Nine Puzzle" and Heavenly Ever After—will play a Korean detective, and Nagayama Eita—known for the film The Host, the film "The Life of Oharu," and dramas such as Nodame Cantabile and The Best Divorce—will play a Japanese detective, setting up an uncompromising acting showdown.
Additionally, Kim Shin-rok—known for the Netflix series "Hellbound", the Netflix film "Jeon, Ran", and dramas such as Tastefully Yours and Undercover High School—will play a Korean-Japanese businessman who helps solve the case; Choi Seong-eun—known for the Netflix film "Rogiwan", the Netflix series "Annarah Sumarnara", and the films Time to Rise and Gentleman—will play a government agent who probes the case from a different perspective than the two detectives; and finally Jung Jae-young—known for the films Noryang: Sea of Death, Moss, and dramas such as If Not Crazy and Forensic Doctor—will appear as an unidentified mysterious man, adding intense charisma to the drama.
With production confirmed and a casting lineup of actors who combine distinct personalities and acting skills, "Road" (working title) will be released on Netflix.
