Comedian Jang Dong-min is achieving remarkable success as an entrepreneur by registering patents in nine countries worldwide for the "one-touch label removal technology" he developed.
On the MBC show "Save me! Holmes" aired on the 11th, Jang Dong-min, while touring a luxury villa in the legal district of Seocho-dong, Seoul with Park Na-rae and Yang Se-chan, revealed a beverage for which he personally obtained a patent and said, "Most of the world uses horizontal labels, but I developed a vertical label."
He explained that the feature of this technology is that when you twist off the PET bottle cap, the label separates with it, greatly improving recycling efficiency. He also added, "I have already obtained patents in nine countries, and overseas patent application expense is more expensive."
Jang Dong-min filed for a patent on this technology in 2021 and completed formal registration in 2022. Based on this, he founded the eco-friendly startup "Blue Sky" in 2023, and in the same year, he was recognized for both technological merit and business potential by winning an excellence award at the Environment Startup Competition hosted by the Ministry of Environment. Recently, he has been collaborating with a machinery developer in Germany, and he plans to unveil the product to consumers around the end of this year.
Regarding the patent filing and registration process, Jang Dong-min said, "After submitting an application to the Korean Intellectual Property Office, you must pay the filing fee, the examination request fee, and an annual renewal fee after registration," and he disclosed specific expense details.
Meanwhile, on a variety show, he said, "Peeling off labels one by one was cumbersome, which led me to the idea," revealing that the eco-friendly idea began with everyday inconvenience.
Having transformed from comedian to entrepreneur, Jang Dong-min is drawing public attention as he achieves new results with eco-friendly technology.
