Cooking researcher Lee Hye-jung revealed an anecdote about disciplining her daughter-in-law over a family ancestral rite.
On the 11th, general programming channel MBN's entertainment program "Sokpuri Show Dongchimii" pre-released an episode that will air on the 13th. The video included content in which Lee Hye-jung mentioned the anecdote of disciplining the eldest daughter-in-law. A caption reading "madam No. 1 whom you wouldn't want to meet as a mother-in-law" was inserted about Lee Hye-jung, drawing attention.
First, Lee Hye-jung opened by saying on the topic "this is how you discipline a daughter-in-law": "In my mind, because I was the eldest daughter-in-law, the ancestral rites were my responsibility and something I had to do, so I thought, 'Are you a guest? This must change.' For three or four years I said, 'What time will you come,' but actually you should come the day before. You have to prepare. If I always prepare, they think I will fry this and do that."
Lee Hye-jung continued, "I thought, 'This won't do. Still, you're the eldest,' so I asked to talk. 'The ancestral rites are your responsibility. Until now I took charge, but now I'm the one who helps you do it. You came thinking you were the eldest, right? So I'm helping you with your share.' I said, 'So don't ask me what time to come to me.'"
Lee Hye-jung also mentioned her own way, saying, "I even go to the bank to exchange the money for the rites for new bills, and I won't leave it on the ground even if it's cash. This is my respect for my father-in-law."
She added, "Then the daughter-in-law said, 'Mother, do I have to come the whole week?' That was outrageous. She also has to care for the children." She said, "Not the whole week, but at least the day before the day before you should ask, 'Mother, when will you go to the market?' You should show interest. The day before you should say, 'I'll come by this time,' not ask, 'What time should I come?' That's not your position."
Responding to complaints of 'why discipline the daughter-in-law,' Lee Hye-jung said, "Rather than calling it discipline, it's informing them of our household principle," and added, "Our daughter-in-law gave me a letter a week later. She said, 'I realized how much you struggled. I realized how hard life has been. While I raise the children, if you could help a little, I will follow what you say.'"
