DAY6 member Sungjin explained why he stopped activities just before the album release in 2020.
On the 10th broadcast of tvN's You Quiz on the Block, the band DAY6, celebrating their 10th anniversary, appeared as a complete group.
Earlier, member Sungjin halted group activities before the May 2020 release of their sixth mini album due to psychological anxiety symptoms. He then enlisted for active duty in March 2021 and after being discharged in Oct. 2022 he rejoined the group and continued activities.
Regarding this, Sungjin said, "First of all, from the time it ended in 2017 I needed a break. I don't think I had time to rest then. It was a time when I was enduring and pushing through. During that period I had trouble breathing. I didn't want to show it. It festered and burst, and the period when I tried to take care of myself was when I stopped activities."
How did the members who watched this feel? Dowoon said, "This is what I could say to hyung: 'Recover and come back. It can wait 10 years.' But my goal was to not burden him as much as possible," he said.
Wonpil also said, "At that time we did unit activities, but that didn't fill it," and then the members' enlistments followed.
With the military hiatus underway, Young K said, "I was most worried about Sungjin hyung, and with everything piling up and then going to the military there was inevitably some anxiety. It would be a lie to say there wasn't."
Dowoon also said, "I really had a hard time. I found there was nothing I wanted to do. Playing the drums didn't make me happy. It offered some comfort but it wasn't fun. At that moment I realized, 'I was happy playing DAY6's drums,'" he said.
