Lee Jae-myung expressed high expectations, calling Park Jin-Young, JYP Entertainment CCO and chief producer, "a very outstanding planner" regarding the background of appointing him as co-chairperson of the presidentially affiliated Popular Culture Exchange Commission.
Lee Jae-myung emphasized at a 100-day inauguration press conference held at the Blue House State Guest House on the 11th, "It is important to develop Korea's cultural capabilities into an industry to create livelihoods for the people, and Park Jin-Young is a very outstanding planner in that regard."
He added, "Fortunately, he agreed to take on the chairperson role, and he will mainly focus on industrializing culture and global expansion," and said, "I expect considerable results and have high expectations."
The presidential office established the Popular Culture Exchange Commission, a presidentially affiliated body, on the 9th and appointed Minister Choi Hwi-young of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Park Jin-Young as co-chairpersons. It is an independent organization for the industrial value and global expansion of popular culture, separate from the existing Arts Council that supports fine arts.
Co-chairperson Park Jin-Young posted on his social media right after his appointment, "Taking on government work is burdensome and worrisome in many ways for someone working in the entertainment industry, but K-pop now faces a very special opportunity, and I decided to take this role thinking we must seize this opportunity."
He said he would "organize the areas where I felt institutional support was needed while working on the ground so that effective support can be provided," and vowed, "I will do my best so that junior artists gain more opportunities and K-pop can take a further leap to become a venue for mutual understanding and exchange."
