Actor Lee Seung-hee appeared in "Polaris," showing her presence with a scene-stealer performance that heightened immersion.
Lee Seung-hee played the mysterious special forces soldier Kim Yong-jun in Disney+ original series "Polaris" (written by Jung Seo-kyung, directed by Kim Hee-won and Heo Myung-haeng), released on the 10th, delivering a performance that triggered tense suspense in the early part of the series.
"Polaris" is a drama about Moon-ju (played by Jeon Ji-hyun), who built an international reputation as a U.N. ambassador, pursuing the forces behind the shooting of a presidential candidate while facing a massive truth threatening the Korean Peninsula alongside Sanho (played by Gang Dong-won), an agent of no clear nationality who must protect him.
In the story, Kim Yong-jun is a soldier belonging to the Army Special Warfare Command who strongly supports opposition to reunification. He points a hidden muzzle at next presidential candidate Jang Joon-ik (played by Park Hae-joon), who attended a U.S. memorial service praying for peaceful reunification.
Lee Seung-hee played the character who pulls the trigger on the core incident in the early part of the series, leaving a short but strong impression. With sharp eyes and detailed character acting that unleashes inner anger, she maximized the urgent tension of the shooting scene and firmly captured viewers' attention.
Earlier, Lee Seung-hee has steadily shown her range in varied works such as the films "Midnight Runners," "The Divine Fury," "Monggoongi," "Streamer," "Spring in Seoul," and the dramas "Kiss Sixth Sense," "Hounds," "Detectives Records season 2," "Lee Jae, soon to die," and Netflix's "Trigger."
In 2019's film "The Divine Fury," she appeared as the first lieutenant's wife, introducing herself to the public with a chilling presence, and in the hit "Spring in Seoul" she delivered an impressive performance as Park Soo-jong, who killed Major Oh Jin-ho (played by Jung Haein), overwhelming the tension. Also, in the TVING original drama "Lee Jae, soon to die," she transformed into a chatty cafe owner, displaying a friendly charm and showcasing chameleon-like character acting across various genres. Having left another mark through "Polaris," expectations are rising for what acting path Lee Seung-hee will take next.
Meanwhile, Disney+'s original series "Polaris" released episodes 1 through 3 on the 10th, and will release two episodes weekly beginning on the 17th, for a total of nine episodes available on Disney+.
