Singer Jeong Dong-won is known to be under prosecution investigation on the charge of driving a vehicle without a license while he was a minor.
According to reports by News1 and MBN on the 11th, the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office has recently been investigating Jeong Dong-won on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act (driving without a license).
Jeong Dong-won is reported to have driven a truck without a license in the Hadong area of South Gyeongsang Province in 2023, when he was 16. At the time, he was at an age when he could not obtain a driver's license.
In particular, MBN reported that this case came to light in the course of Jeong Dong-won being victimized by privacy extortion. According to the report, in March he was threatened by a group that had obtained his cellphone with the message "hand over 500 million won or I will spread your private life," and after handing over 100 million won he got his phone back. Among the contents of the phone the perpetrators had obtained was footage of Jeong Dong-won driving a truck.
Based on this video, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul applied the charge of driving without a license and is reported to have forwarded the case to prosecutors in June.
Jeong Dong-won's side told media, "I drove only once out of curiosity," and said, "I acknowledged the wrongdoing and cooperated sincerely with the investigation."
At present, OSEN also attempted to contact Jeong Dong-won's side to hear their position on this case but could not reach them.
Meanwhile, Jeong Dong-won rose to fame through TV Chosun's Mr. Trot, appearing at the young age of a first-year middle school student and drawing attention by finishing in the final top five.
Jeong Dong-won previously had a record of being caught by police for driving without a license. In March 2023 he was caught riding a motorcycle on the Dongbu Expressway in Seoul, where two-wheeled vehicles are prohibited, and received a suspended prosecution disposition.
