Actor Jung Woo-sung chose the Busan Ilbo Film Awards as his first official appearance since marriage.
On the 11th, the 34th Busan Ilbo Film Awards announced the recipient of the Yu Hyun-mok Film Arts Award and the list of participants in the handprinting event to be held on the 18th.
The Busan Ilbo Film Awards, launched in 1958 as the country's first film awards that led the golden age of Korean cinema in the 1960s, resumed in 2008 and has continued for 18 years, preserving the tradition and prestige of the country's first film awards. At the ceremony to be held on the 18th at the Signiel Busan Grand Ballroom, following the pre-ceremony handprinting and red carpet events, awards will be presented in 16 institutional sector categories, including this year's Star Award and the Yu Hyun-mok Film Arts Award.
Ahead of the ceremony, the recipient of the Yu Hyun-mok Film Arts Award was announced first, drawing attention. The special Yu Hyun-mok Film Arts Award, given to a challenging and progressive filmmaker who continues the spirit of the late master director Yu Hyun-mok, a five-time winner of the Busan Ilbo Film Awards director award and a giant of Korean cinema, was awarded to actor Jang Dong-gun.
Yang Yun-ho, vice chairman of the Korean Film Council, said the film "A Normal Family" is a work that aligns well with the realism and humanism pursued by director Yu Hyun-mok, and actor Jang Dong-gun showed a new acting transformation in "A Normal Family" portraying a sincere father. He noted this resonates with the Yu Hyun-mok spirit of loving film until the end, dedicating himself and seeking new changes, as the director continued to make films such as "Sea Anemone" even into his 70s, and that the shared passion and will of these two artists were important reasons for the selection.
Winners of the 33rd Busan Ilbo Film Awards will attend the handprinting event held as a pre-ceremony. Last year's winners — actor Jung Woo-sung (best actor), Kim Geum-soon (best actress), Lim Ji-yeon (best supporting actress), Lee Joon-hyuk (this year's Star Award/male), Shin Hye-sun (this year's Star Award/female), Kim Young-sung (newcomer/male), and Jung Soo-jung (newcomer/female) — will grace the event. Before the ceremony, a red carpet event for film professionals participating in awards other than the handprinting is also scheduled, drawing attention to the attendance of those who brightened the film industry throughout the year.
Earlier, the selection of actors Kim Nam-gil and Chun Woo-hee as emcees drew attention. At the 2025 34th Busan Ilbo Film Awards ceremony, 16 institutional sector winners, including the Yu Hyun-mok Film Arts Award whose recipient was announced today, will be revealed. The pre-events, handprinting and red carpet, will be simultaneously streamed live from 5 p.m. on the 18th (Thu) on Chijijik, Naver's live streaming platform, and Naver TV, the streaming/live broadcast video service, both operated by Naver (CEO Choi Soo-yeon).
