Actor So Ji-sub this time becomes Kim, the father of Min-ji.
SBS's new Friday-Saturday drama "Kim Bu-jang" (written by Nam Dae-jung, directed by Lee Seung-young) has confirmed it will air in 2026, announcing the birth of a "seasoned blockbuster" that will overturn the drama scene.
"Kim Bu-jang" is a drama about Kim Bu-jang, an ordinary father and small-town citizen, who reveals a secret that must never be known to find his beloved daughter and risks everything to save her.
The original webtoon "Kim Bu-jang" is a spin-off work that integrates the universes of Park Tae-joon's most popular Korean comics "Lookism", "The Breaker: New Waves", and "Life Is Tough" and was so hotly popular that it immediately rose to No. 1 on Naver's Tuesday webtoon chart when serialization began. Nam Dae-jung, a writer familiar with putting sincerity into laughter with films such as "A Great Wish" and "30 Days," wrote the script, and director Lee Seung-young, who showcased sensitive directing that highlights delicate emotional lines in works such as "Wonderful World," "Tracer," and "Voice 2," has taken the helm, drawing attention.
In this context, "Kim Bu-jang," confirmed as SBS's new Friday-Saturday drama in 2026, has decisively finalized So Ji-sub's casting and promises a "new-sensory dad universe" that will show unequaled action, bromance, and the true face of paternal love.
First, So Ji-sub transforms into Kim Bu-jang, Min-ji's father, who works as an ordinary employee at a small savings bank but, as it turns out, is a former North-South special operative. The Kim Bu-jang So Ji-sub plays is an operative dispatched on countless special missions, the No. 1 on North Korea's most-wanted blacklist, and in the South is like a time bomb whose existence must not be revealed.
So Ji-sub, who has proven his enduring "so-gangji" reputation by showing relentless action in various recent works, will renew his career-best performance through "Kim Bu-jang" by simultaneously showing his continued noir leading-man presence and his unpretentious fatherly side. Attention is focused on So Ji-sub's activities as he takes on a powerful 2026 character with an intense, close-to-life portrayal of radical paternal love.
The production team said, "'Kim Bu-jang,' which will come as SBS's new Friday-Saturday drama in 2026, will create a 'seasoned blockbuster' that will overturn 2026 as So Ji-sub's vivid acting as an 'extraordinary dad' is added to the solid original work," and asked, "Please look forward to 'Kim Bu-jang,' in which So Ji-sub's performance will shine."
"Kim Bu-jang" is scheduled to air in 2026.
