(Continued from interview ①) Actor Kim Min-kyu described the process he prepared for the project.
Recently at a cafe in Sogyeok-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, an interview was held with actor Kim Min-kyu of the tvN Monday-Tuesday drama Love, Take Two.
Playing Bohyeon, the sunshine-like presence of Cheonghae village in the drama, he said he prepared meticulously for this project, from external changes to character synchronization.
Kim Min-kyu said, "In my previous work, Cheongdam International High School 2, the character looked too thin with a 2D cartoon feel, so I lost 13kg. After that I gained weight again and was preparing for this project when I got it, but Bohyeon is Hyori's (played by Choi Yoon-ji) first love. Watching the monitor, my face looked fleshy. I felt I couldn't have that, so I went on a diet again," he explained.
He continued, "The director told me, 'I cast you because you are Bohyeon,' so at first I hesitated, but the more I did it, the more I tried to find Bohyeon's clumsy charm beneath her perfect appearance. I also thought about acting as 'myself.' I approached it by thinking, what if I were Bohyeon, and read the script a lot," he recalled.
Regarding the synchronization between the character and himself, he cited "clumsy charm" and said, "I think I'm a bit like that too. When I'm serious, people around me laugh. Honestly, I don't know where I'm clumsy myself, but it seems to be the part most similar to Bohyeon. I don't want to admit it, though," he said with a laugh.
He added that Bohyeon was an honest character with a human touch. While reading the script, I for the first time thought, 'She's cool, I want to live like her.' So along with external preparations, I wanted to resemble the person Bohyeon is," he added.
Kim Min-kyu, who is currently preparing to bulk up again, said, "I also gained weight. I'm trying to prepare my body as much as possible," then said, "Actually, when I talk about this, directors will know I like working out. I worry that might be put into the scenes," he lamented, drawing laughter.
