Actor Kang Hong-seok once again delivers a deep impression with the musical "Kinky Boots."
Kang Hong-seok, who joined the Korean premiere of "Kinky Boots" in 2014 and sparked a hot box office sensation for the show, has been cast as Lola for six consecutive times — 2016, 2020, 2022, 2024 and this year — and is expected to once again ignite the "Kinky" craze.
The musical "Kinky Boots," directed by Jerry Mitchell with lyrics and music by Cyndi Lauper, is a well-made musical that has won numerous awards including the Tony Awards and received love worldwide; it depicts the true story of a handcrafted shoe factory in Northampton, England, which faced closure due to poor management but miraculously survived by making 80 cm long men's boots called Kinky Boots.
Kang Hong-seok plays the drag queen Lola, who seeks her "true self" in the face of society's prejudice, and gives a passionate performance. Since the 2014 Korean premiere, director Jerry Mitchell named him "his most cherished Korean actor," and because he embodied "Lola itself," expectations are growing for the new Lola Kang Hong-seok will portray.
Kang Hong-seok has left a strong impression in every production he has appeared in with rich vocal and acting skills in musicals such as "Street Life (Run To You)," "Kinky Boots," "Death Note," "Dracula," "Elisabeth," "Hadestown," and "Aladdin."
He has also been active on the small screen in dramas such as "What's Wrong with Secretary Kim," "Hotel del Luna," "Cheap Cheonlima Mart," and "Sejak, the Enchanted Ones," building a solid filmography through numerous works and making a strong impression on the public across various fields.
Meanwhile, the musical "Kinky Boots," featuring Kang Hong-seok, will meet audiences on a six-city tour starting with performances at Goyang Aram Nuri Aram Theater from Nov. 1-9. The nationwide tour's finale in Seoul will run at the Charlotte Theater from Dec. 17 through Mar. 29, 2026.
