SBS Tuesday entertainment show 'Dolsing Fourmen' (hereafter "Dolsing Fourmen") marked its 200th broadcast.
It first aired in July 2021 and, as of the broadcast on the 9th, reached the milestone 200th episode. 'Dolsing Fourmen'—featuring the "dolsing men" Tak Jae-hoon, Lee Sang-min, Lim Won-hee and Kim Jun-ho—has been praised for pioneering a new kind of talk show never seen before, built on their lively talk chemistry.
Director Seo Ha-yeon, who is in charge of production, said, "No one on the production team expected we would reach 200 episodes," and added, "In the early days there were many skeptical reactions such as, 'Who would watch four divorced men getting together and only talking about themselves?' but unexpectedly viewers said, 'It doesn't feel like someone else's story,' and they laughed and cried with us," expressing gratitude to the viewers.
She went on to cite the show's "raw appeal," which is hard to find on other talk shows, as the secret to its longevity. Seo said, "We worked hard to minimize broadcast-style packaging and production. Even though it's not live, instead of polishing things in editing we tried to capture raw reactions and even the 'oops' mistakes as they happened. I think that made viewers feel it was 'a real chat room, not fake entertainment,'" she added.
In addition, 'Dolsing Fourmen' delivers big laughs every episode with inventive guest lineups, and the production team cited "unexpectedness" as the key point in guest selection. Seo said, "Basically we consider whether there can be synergy when paired with 'Dolsing Fourmen' and whether pairing them with 'Dolsing Fourmen' will produce laughter within 10 minutes. For example, when people who normally seem to have no connection come out and bicker with Dolsing Fourmen, reactions explode," adding, "Some guests awkwardly asked, 'I'm not even divorced—will that be okay?' but after the recording they said, 'That was the most relaxed recording I've ever had,' and recommended acquaintances as guests." She also expressed the production team's wish to invite global K-pop idols, seniors who can make 'Dolsing Fourmen' freeze, or people with past ties to the cast as potential guests.
She also expressed a special affection for the four MCs leading 'Dolsing Fourmen.' Seo said, "What I feel in the editing room every week is that the four really have a knack for entertainment," and added, "It's not easy for entertainment members to stay together for years and maintain the same tone, but when they gather in the studio they return to their original intentions every week. I want to take this opportunity to sincerely thank them."
Regarding Lee Sang-min and Kim Jun-ho, who have started "new marriages," Seo said, "As the two began new lives, the program's stories actually expanded. It doesn't end with the pain of divorce; they find love again and can talk about life from a new perspective," and added, "Going forward, rather than the label 'dolsing,' it seems the identity will become stronger as 'stories of people preparing for their second act of life,'" raising expectations for a richer 'Dolsing Fourmen.'
